"Islam advocates freedom, progress and development"
WOW. Not in Iran! He must have just finished smoking some really powerful stuff before he said that!
All you have to do is compare where Iran was headed under the Shah, to how it's stagnated for the past 25 yrs.

Actually, Islam advocates lying to infidels so as to weaken their resolve and conquer them more easily.

President Mohammad Khatami said on Tuesday that Islam advocates freedom, progress and development.
Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth.

Islam is not against freedom, progress and development No Islam is just against Christianity, Jews, women's rights, Western Civilization and anyone who doesn't profess the right version of Islam.

These people are evil, and anyone who thinks we can sit down and make deals with them is crazy.

We should prove that Islam the late Imam Khomeini advocated is contrary to the Islam of Talibans and al-Qaeda," he said. Why of course it is. That's why it had nothing to do with the Beirut bombing, Hezbollah, or seizing and occupying a foreign embassy and abusing its inhabitants for 444 straight days.
Khatami might recall the fate of a fellow named Sadegh Ghotzbadeh, who also thought he could run with the hounds and succeeded until they tired of him. They accused him of conspiracy, pretty rich in view of the fact that they were all co-conspirators. Tied him to a post and shot him. From the knees up, slowly.
I want to hear again about the nice guy named Khomeini who was boss when it happened.
