JULY 19 -- THIS DAY IN HISTORY (Ted Kennedy killed Mary Jo on this day in 1969)

• 1968: US Senator Edward Kennedy’s car drove off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts killing his 28-year-old companion Mary Jo Kopechne. Kennedy fled the scene of the accident and received a suspended sentence of two months and one year's probation. Chappaquiddick now stands for political nemesis— a shady part of ones past that won't go away.

Immature-perhaps, but some mistakes are SO bad, that they should be reminded daily. For causing someone's death, by deliberately abandoning them, then trying to cover it up, it beyond reprehensible. No amount of rubbing it in, would ever be enough IMO.

It was 1969. The hindustantimes put 1968 in the article.

Also, I don't believe he is "haunted" by it at all, or he wouldn't be out there acting so self-righteous all the time.

Amazing how he could sleep it off and shower with nary a thought for MJK......the man has no conscience. And, he has no business being a U.S. Senator.

Yeah, there's quite a few more that has blood on their hands:
Hitlery and John F'n Kerry comes to mind immediately.

Oh, Doug, that is one of your best EVAH!!!

I still have my "Kennedy for Lifeguard" button that I got at the 1976 Republican National Convention. My dad, who is now 85, has sworn since 1969 that if Ted Kennedy ever runs for President, he will appear at every campaign stop wearing scuba gear. Some voters have not forgotten.

Or John Kerry revealing the identify of a CIA agent on 4/11 in Bolton hearings.

Thats the third reference to this I have heard, am I missing something?

I don't believe that he's haunted by it at all....he's already proved beyond any doubt that he has no conscience...

I think that also on this date, Apollo 11 lifted off

The launch was actually July 16, but here's why it's important:

With Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins on the way to making history, the Chappaquiddick "incident" didn't get nearly as much ink as it would have otherwise.

I mean, can you imagine? Teddy, who actually committed a crime (i.e. manslaughter) getting hammered by a relentless media the way Karl Rove (who committed no crime at all) is being treated today?

Not to worry. We'll all be held accountable eventually. I really, really wouldn't want to have to answer for Ted.

I understand....completely.....would you be of the same understanding if someone called the Nixon's every year and called him a crook and cheap shot artist....or called Reagan every year on the anniversary of pulling the Marines out of Lebanon when some called him a coward....of course I don't agree with that BS...but I think when libs do the same thing to us.......we are aghast.....that is all.....stooping to their level is kind of much mundane.....but I agree that he should be vilified for many things.......it was just the calling his office today to tell him that seemed juvenile.....wouldn't want that to happen to Repubs of shoe were on other foot ...that is all

Question: Has The Blimp EVER shown evidence of real remorse for his actions? I was only 1 in 1969 so would have no recollection of what took place.

If he has not repented sufficiently, which it doesn't seem to me that he has, then he is worse than the pond scum poor Mary Jo suffocated in.

I know what you are saying, but Nixon and Reagan didn't kill anyone.

The slob left her to die in an air pocket while he was working on his alibi for 10 hours. One of his staff refused to go along with a plan he had to lie about it.

Absolutely. America was paying attention to the moon landing, the most historic event in our nation since 1776. Good timing by the lifeguard.

It's unbelievable he was allowed to continue serving in the Senate after this incident. Even worse - what kind of a state continues to elect somebody like this - and in such overwhelming numbers?

again......you are preaching to the choir....I never said he was anything more then evil.....what I objected to was calling his office....that doesn't do anything gallant or noble IMO.......that is all.....I have no objections about how you feel about the man
