Durbin abuse case not verified
The Washington Times ^ | July 18, 2005 | Rowan Scarborough

Posted on 07/18/2005 11:01:31 AM PDT by seamus

Military investigators did not substantiate major charges of prisoner abuse contained in one FBI agent's e-mail that was read on the Senate floor by Minority Whip Richard J. Durbin as an example of U.S.-sanctioned torture at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba....

Gen. Schmidt wrote in his report, "Another FBI agent stated she witnessed a detainee short shackled and lying in his own excrement. The [investigation] was unable to find any documentation, testimony, or other evidence corroborating the third agent's recollection to this allegation or her e-mail allegation that one of the detainees had pulled his hair out while short shackled."

The Schmidt report also said, "We discovered no evidence to support the allegation that the detainees were denied food and water."

In all, Gen. Schmidt said he found no evidence of torture, but did find cases of aggressive interrogations of reputed al Qaeda and Taliban members captured in Afghanistan.

Mr. Durbin's spokesman said Friday it is inaccurate to say the charges were disproved because investigators never talked to the FBI agent who wrote the e-mail ...

Mr. Durbin issued a statement that said, in part:     "Many aspects of the report made public today are troubling. This is yet another report that fails to examine the decision by administration officials related to torture policy. The report did not review the legality of abusive interrogation techniques that the secretary of defense explicitly approved. It did not address objections by the FBI ... that these techniques are unconstitutional and ineffective. Instead, the investigation engaged in circular reasoning -- if an interrogation technique was approved by the Department of Defense, this report found such a technique does not constitute abuse. In other words, the secretary of defense decides what the law is."

He'll claim the act did take place but admit he couldn't verify the authenticity of the allegation. Rather will be proud.

I don't think their hats is where they're pulling out these "ideas" - it's another area of the anatomy from which these attacks come.

Dick Durbin, American Taliban

I am not one of those who calls people "UnAmerican" for criticizing Bush and the WOT; I AM one of those who calls people UnAmerican when they work against America's people and its interests.

You win the label, Dick.

Funny how the Media doesn't find out the NAMES of the two LYING FBI agents that were women. I just wanted to note that we STILL don't know the agent's name, but I want their NAMES....even more so now that they have been shown to be lying!!

Couldn't agree more about women not belonging there.

No forgiveness necessary.....:)

Sec Def Rumsfeld addresses this Dick Turbin-esque crap in today's WSJ, which been posted in FR:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1445228/posts

Little Dickie Turbin just doesn't get it. Either that, or he enjoys blaming America for everything, and playing right into the hands of such "balanced" and "non-biased" folks as Al Jazeera.

Amazing. The Aljezeera article on prisoner abuse at Gitmo was way more objective than anything I've ever read in the U.S. press.

How can it be?

A lot of Illinoisans will blindly follow the rats all the way to hell. But I don't think enough of them would for the Democrats to win an honest election. Monstrous fraud in Cook County effectively cancals the entire state. There and in East St Louis.

Fraud, more fraud, and another steaming pile of fraud. We need a Newt Gingrich up here to do for the Land of Lincoln what he did for Jawjuh.

I used to be a very strong advocate of Newt, but recently I've lost a little respect for him, as he seems a little to comfy with the spawn of satan, Hildabeast.

Mr. durbin is only doing his patriotic duty by siding with the taliban and alqueada, after all we Americans are just here to support the likes of him and the rest of the leftists in the house and senate with our tax payer dollars. Our dollars which pay their salaries, provide air travel when they do their fact finding forays into other countries, and a beauty salon where they can be primped, powdered and probably botoxed for their tv appearances, telling us what terrible people we are They are the cream of the crop, and we should bow down and worship at their feet.

After all we have everything the rest of the world does not. We are fortunate numb skulls who work our fingers off to bathe, feed, clothe, air condition, deflea, medicate, provide suitable living quarters, and korans of those incarcerated at Guantomamo. We should feel privileged to do our civic duty for these unforntunates who until they we captured didn't know what three square meals were, clean clothes, being without other creatures living on the bodies and in their hair.

mr durbin should continue to remind us of our good fortune to be Americans. (Now go ahead and barf)
