Shades of Cover - (Plame Game-Detailed Release of Agency MO)
Yahoo/LA Times ^ | 7-16-05 | Greg Miller

Posted on 07/16/2005 7:05:35 PM PDT by STARWISE

SO much in this article .. sorry for all the snips ..

=================================================

(snip)

Valerie Plame had dinner with five of her classmates from the agency's training academy.

(snip)

But even though Plame's "cover" had been cracked wide open, her dinner companions didn't pry for details.(snip)

"Cover is a mosaic, it's a puzzle," said James Marcinkowski, a former CIA case officer who attended the dinner. "Every piece is important [to protect] because you don't know which pieces the bad guys are missing."

(snip)

The case also has called attention to the precious, concealing commodity the intelligence community calls "cover." The term refers to the amalgam of lies and props, from false names to phony front companies, that disguise a spy's identity and purpose.

(snip)

" .. there are distinct categories of cover that CIA operatives use, and an almost endless list of components. Some cover is tissue-thin and disposable. Other arrangements are so layered and deep that they anticipate hostile probing of every facet of a person's life.

Plame's cover — in which she posed as a private energy consultant while actually working for a CIA department tracking weapons proliferation — was somewhere in the middle of those extremes.

(snip)

.... her exposure caused minimal damage, mainly because she had been working at headquarters for years, former officials familiar with the review said.

Still, her clandestine career is over, and the outrage among many current and former case officers lingers because cover is something they go to such great lengths to protect.

"It doesn't matter whether he used her name," Marcinkowski said of the recent disclosures surrounding Rove. "It doesn't matter what her status was. He gave up a piece of the puzzle and he had no right to do it."

Publicity hound?

Oh, you mean Joe "Which Camera is Pointed At Me?" Wilson?

Of course, you meant to say media whore, right?

He gave up a piece of the puzzle and he had no right to do it."

Here's what I don't understand; if she was undercover, which I doubt, and if she had kept her "cover" secret, how on earth was Karl Rove suppose to know she was UNDERCOVER?

Is he just not to EVER mention anybody's name just in case they happen to be in the CIA?

And if he had known she was undercover, was he just not suppose to mention the part about her getting him the job for the trip? Wouldn't that have been great? Wilson could have kept saying Cheney sent him and nobody could have contradicted him, right?

Wilson is upset because Rove said she was fair game; well, she inserted herself into this story, so she certainly is fair game, IMO.

Just like John Kerry said Mary Cheney was fair game.

It must've nearly choked her to admit that. Oh the goings on in DC that only the "insider-the-belters" know .. and there's different classes of those. I wonder what Ben and Sally know.

Everything. Absolutely everything.

I'm sick of all of them; I was thinking this afternoon about the end of Clinton's administration, remember when we all couldn't wait for him to get out of office to be rid of them all?

What fools we were, eh?

lol

All of the above and then some.

The next thing we'll learn is that Karl Rove exposed Secret Agent Joe Wilson and put his entire family and lifelong super secret contacts in danger by forcing Agent Wilson to write an editorial for the New York Times.

Never mind that years of WMD intelligence, steadily leaked to the press, said that Saddam had WMD. Either the WMD intelligence was WRONG or somebody LIED. I don't know what is more disturbing. That Joe Wilson exposed his wife OR the President(s) of the United States have been given faulty intelligence for YEARS.

The residue of that cabal .. the toxic waste matter, their co-conspirators, their progeny, waning MSM and college academicians .. will be with us for probably another 5-10 years. Makes me nauseous, unti I remember that the facade of credibility is melting off the Rats and MSM day after day .. drip by drip... and I'm very buoyed by the discernment and sensibilities of a lot of the upcoming tuned-in youngsters.

You just can't be so chronically scummy and transparently evil... offering no hope, nothing uplifting, no patriotism ... without it finally reaching critical mass.

I can imagine any number of people that Judith Miller would be protecting (if that's what she's truly doing) .. that's how pervasive and insidious the swamp has become... and it wouldn't really shock me.

It's so perfectly understandable why W insists on loyalty and zipped lips .. he knew very well the viper pit he was entering.

Oh yes .. everything W is mockable .. derisive .. he's SUCH a dumb bunny. How many dozens of pairs of underwear is it going to take for these quislings to get it? God only knows. Never seen so many engaged in such constant and humiliating self-flagellation for such little pay-off.

You know, those people are so shallow in the elite circles, that I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of this Bush bashing by the journalists has to do with the fact that the Bush's just aren't the big party-goers....

I have heard that Washington has been just really down because of the difference between the social lives of the Bush's compared to the Clintons....

BOO-FRIGGIN-HOO!!!

That is true .. when Ben and Sally were on LK, she was mentioning the difference in the social scene. Implicit, I think, was her despairing of her imperial "hostess with the mostess" label and no longer being with the upper echelons of power with this group. She relishes being influential in bringing all the important players together for her gatherings; and, as others have reported over the years ... those people would meet and do their schmoozing and dealing. W don't deal .. LOL.

Read earlier, on another post (Prosecute Plame: More Treachery in the War at Home David Horowitz's article and Newt's take') that the now famed journalist. . . Matt Cooper; is married to "Hillary operative' Mandy Grumwold.

Interesting unfolding here. . .that I had not heard; after all these painful days of MSM reportage. . .(and when do we get to the heart of this Plame/Wilson treason)?

In the meantime, Valerie is still imagining that she is a 'secret' agent. . .and continues her covert efforts to bring down our President; and damn America as well. . .

Ah, yes. In Idiot Liberal Land, a smirking CIA desk clerk gets the bright idea to send her midget husband on a trip to Niger, who then files a fabricated "report," and she's the poor little victim.

Oh, yes. And she's always been in "deep cover," pushing paper at Langley. She's been the number on fighter against terror, even though she's spent most of her time trying to keep dear Saddam safe from harm.

We weren't fools to want to be rid of them all--we were fools to think it would actually happen, apparently. One of this President's shortcomings, in my opinion. (Soon, someone will come along and tell me how ignorant I am of the genius behind those decisions--but if Bush had cleaned house, we wouldn't be dealing with yet another dem-manufactured "scandal.")
