Democrats Ask Steele To Skip Rove Event --Lt Gov Steele, R, Black
WP ^ | 7/13/05 | John Wagner

Democrats called yesterday for Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele (R) to cancel a fundraiser this month featuring Karl Rove, the White House deputy chief of staff under intense scrutiny in the case of a CIA official whose identity was disclosed.

"Michael Steele has to decide whether that is the kind of person who reflects his values and those of Maryland," said Phil Singer, a spokesman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, a Washington-based group. "We urge Michael Steele to do the right thing and cancel his event."

A spokesman for Steele, who is exploring a bid for the U.S. Senate, said the July 26 fundraiser in Washington remains on his schedule. Others allied with Steele laughed off the suggestion.

"Are they afraid he's going to raise too much money?" asked GOP strategist Carol Hirschburg.

News reports in recent days disclosed that Rove discussed the role of CIA official Valerie Plame with a reporter. Rove has said he did not know Plame's name or leak it to anyone. The issue was the subject of a combative White House briefing Monday.

Steele has been heavily courted to run for the Senate seat by national Republicans, and Democrats are hopeful that his association with Rove could tarnish him in a state in which Democrats have nearly a 2-to-1 edge in voter registration.

"Presumably, if he goes through with the fundraiser, he'll have to defend ...Rove, which could cause problems down the road," said Jim Jordan, a national Democratic strategist. "If he cancels, it's a tremendous embarrassment for the White House."

Steele's office referred calls to the National Republican Senatorial Committee... Dan Ronayne, a committee official who has been acting as Steele's spokesman, said the Democrats' action "shows that they're very concerned about ...Steele. I'm sure they'd like him to cancel all his fundraisers."...

I must have missed when they started putting race at the end of one's title. Would that go before or after PhD, MD, DDS, or Esquire?

Q: Who do the liberals hate more, Rove or bin Laden?

A: None of the above. They loathe themselves, thus they must try to bring decent people down to their level in their misery-loves-company pathetic little lives. Nobody at the ACLU has bothered to tell them that God loves EVEN them.... ;^)

Anyone notice this detail? Dems have a 2-1 edge in registration, and Democrats HOPE association with Rove will hurt Steele. In a state with this edge toward Democrats why do they need to hope? Why do they even need to care what their opposition is doing? Unless they know Steele could actually win this election.

Why object to Rove helping Steele fundraise if it can be used to hurt Steele in the campaign? Unless it won't hurt, only help raise the funds he needs to knock a "D" down in a "blue" state.

When the Dems have to fight for "Blue" seats we know they are desperate.

My point was if they detest Rove so much, why do they care if Rove campaigns for Steele?

"My point was if they detest Rove so much, why do they care if Rove campaigns for Steele?"

I was being facetious. Seriously, cornered animals lash out at anything and these Darwinists believe they are only animals....

"I heard screaming and bullwhips cracking" -- the old Neil Young song was code about how Bush and Rove would treat the DNC....

I would think one of the first rules of polictics would be don't take advise from the opposition. By definition they do not have your best interest at heart.

And besides that, they're losers!

Complex? The main thing I can't understand about this is how most DNC leaders can sleep or look themselves in the mirror....

They don't hang with ordinary people. The media is below them but necessary friends. This is a deep pocket, blue blood, fake accent, culture.

Although a frightening thought is the old adage of "repeat the lie often enough....

The 'rats fatal flaw is, they lie often but not well. Without the Clintonoids, it is strictly amateur hour. All these petty halfbaked backstabs do for the public is immunize them..."ho hum there's that Dean feller or that Schumer whatsisname, yakking about somebody...about somethin'...again...whatever..."

I was talking to some leftists I know a few days ago and the subject of Rove came up. None of them could even really explain what exactly Rove did for Bush, they just knew that they were supposed to hate him.

The funny thing is that as a political strategist, Rove's role is very similar to James Carville's role with Clinton. But as much as conservatives disagree with Carville, it doesn't rise to this level of hatred. In fact Rush Limbaugh is a close friend of Carville.

The Rat's fund raising numbers are way down. Corporate giving is off 50%.

And this is suppose to help? Any foaming leftist who gives based upon this garbage is literally throwing their money down a 'rat hole.

The only reason the Dems are after Rove is because he is effective.

The Governor needs to publicly come out and say that he isn't going to bend to his oppositions demands, just because they are afraid of Rove.
