Republican congreesional members' constituents care more about immigration and border security than any othe issue, according to a new congressional insiders poll.

Seventeeen of the 37 Republican House and Senate members who responded to the National Journal's survey identified immigration as the issue "most on the minds of your consituents these days." That easily topped the next closest issue, the economy, which gained 10 votes, followed by gasoline prices with four votes and terrorism with threee votes.

One Republican called immigration the "highest-octane issue in America," while another said, "It is here that the mismatch between the federal government's inaction and the realities at home is the greatest."

Rep. Tom Tancredo, the Colorado Republican who runs the House Immigration Reform Caucus, has said other members of Congress have come up to him recently and said immigration is a dominant issue when they return home for recess periods.

Of 25 Democratic members of Congress who responded, just two mentioned immigration as the top issue for constituents....

"Maybe Hillary wasn't kidding about that border security thing!"

I wouldn't go that far.

They would not be worried if they didn't have such a pathetic record.

I'm not so sure "little guys" holding out on funding would cause all that much of a splash? I don't know how much Joe Six pack contributes? But it sems a better strategy than withholding your vote. If the GOP took notice, the water could easily be turned back on.

Why don't we, Joe Six pack send our esteemed Congressmen and Senators pesos bills in an envelope with the caption, that they will get just pesos for their reelection campaign, if the Border Issue is not addressed in earnest.
I will bet 100 to 1 that this stunt will get their attention, more so than their lousy polls.

Moreover, since we know that the politicians life line is "cash", a message like this will sent shock wave thru their ranks if it becomes real.

For this to be effective we need to start doing it just about know, before the elections, and put them on notice!

Mindlessly voting GOP is no better than mindlessly voting Democrat.

I agree. I'll vote principle over party every time.

Some guy like Ross Perot needs to come along to scare them. When big chunks of the electorate defect to a third party, the major parties start to listen very quickly.

"The Solution to Illegal Immigration?"

I was LMAO!!

Tell me, is it illegal to dress up as an immigration officer, or decorate your SUV to look like a border patrol vehicle?

I am thinking what driving around their hangouts dressed like that will do to their state of mind! Or just getting a group of people dressed like that all running towards a group of them!!

Even funnier, it would get to the "cry wolf" stage, when they would start to ignore REAL border patrols!!

Why not keep one's money, if one is not going to have any action, either way?

Exactly! That is what it's going to take. Both major parties have a vested interest in letting in as many illegals as possible, and the Libertarians aren't any better on this issue.

I hope someone steps up to the plate soon.

In all honesty, it just might get fixed faster with Dems back in control!

Immigration doesn't appear to move Democrats the same way it moves Republicans. Of 35 Democratic members of Congress who responded, just two mentioned immigration as the top issue for constituents, while another person specifically disregarded immigration, saying his or her constituents were talking about "all of these issues except immigration."

One of the two Democrats who did cite immigration as the top constituent concern said it is a difficult balancing act. "The burning question of 'What can we do to simultaneously support the plight of undocumented immigrants while still keeping our streets and borders safe?' has never been more prevalent," the lawmaker said.

You may remember that a similar trick worked a few years ago. Tea bags, were mailed after talk radio jacked up the little guy. Tax cuts......

"I'll stay home thank you very much!"

The problem with doing that is your "protest" vote does not get counted. I voted for the Constitution Party everywhere I could in 04' except for Tancredo. In this way the people who analyze the figures will see a trend of votes going to conservative 3rd parties and the Reps will see they are losing conservative voters.

I'm guessing the corporate interests far outweigh the contributions of the grass roots. I suspect the GOP will continue to pay lip service to the issue until it's too late.

At some point, Muhammad Gomez will get across the border - heck, he already may be here - and pull something along the lines of last week's UK attack. At which point the media and the left will plaster our current President with his "legacy" of being soft on he border.

It'd be a tough position to defend.

"But, keep withholdig your funds to the GOP... /sarcasm..."

Talk is cheap. When I see some action, then my wallet will open up once again to the RNC. Not until then.

Amen, I can vote for a conservative with whom I legitimately disagree on some issues. But I can't vote for someone who would blow smoke up my kazoo!

I just received my Official Senate Majority Leader's Survey and fund-raising letter in mail. 45 questions. 45. AND NOT ONE QUESTION ON BORDER SECURITY OR IMMIGRATION....NOT ONE! (seething anger controlled for the children's sake)

You can imagine the response I am formulating in the dark side of my mind.

Aw-w-w-w isn't that nice? They are actually giving some lip-service to the problem. That is so-o-o-o wonderful of them. Why, they may have to play a few rounds of golf to discuss the problem now and again.

The whole bunch of lily-livered limp-wristed do-nothing Senators and Congressmen make me just want to p*&k
