Republican congreesional members' constituents care more about immigration and border security than any othe issue, according to a new congressional insiders poll.
Seventeeen of the 37 Republican House and Senate members who responded to the National Journal's survey identified immigration as the issue "most on the minds of your consituents these days." That easily topped the next closest issue, the economy, which gained 10 votes, followed by gasoline prices with four votes and terrorism with threee votes.
One Republican called immigration the "highest-octane issue in America," while another said, "It is here that the mismatch between the federal government's inaction and the realities at home is the greatest."
Rep. Tom Tancredo, the Colorado Republican who runs the House Immigration Reform Caucus, has said other members of Congress have come up to him recently and said immigration is a dominant issue when they return home for recess periods.

Of 25 Democratic members of Congress who responded, just two mentioned immigration as the top issue for constituents....

But, keep withholdig your funds to the GOP... /sarcasm...
Quislings.
It damn well should worry Republicans---they are out of touch with their base.
Why not hold back funds? Its not like the GOP is going DO anything effective about the situation, at least not from a citizens point of view. Gotta keep that cheap labor coming in to please those business interests...
What is the answer ???
Move to Mexico, they are all here !!
It all sounds so nice that they are concerned. I'll eat my keyboard if they actually do anything about border security.
Actually, I can't wait to see how this plays out in 06 and 08.
If the Pubs do nothing, then they won't have an easy time in 06, although they may be complacent about it.
And no matter what is done, she who must not be named will run in 08 saying it's all wrong and she will right it.
Unlike horse face, she isn't stupid enough to just say, "I have a plan."
I'm not usually a single issue voter but next year and in 08 border control will be a make or break issue for me. Ive let the issue slide through the last two elections but I'm not letting it go for another decade.
Talk is cheap. They've got all the money they need for it.
They better get off their butts and do something about it!
Terrorism and immigration are inseparable issues.
Here's a list of those voting yea (40) to those voting nay (60)

If you think immigration is the only issue and that somehow the democrats will have a tough border policy if they get in power by all mean withhold funds.
I agree - things are totally out of control in my area. It is ridiculous.
I'd say that if there were a concerted effort to freeze funding to the GOP on behalf of their base that they would at least know that their constituency meant business. As it is now they already know that they got your vote in their back pocket.
Unfortunately those members and the President seem to care LESS about that issue than any other.
'As it is now they already know that they got your vote in their back pocket."
Exactly....they probably laugh and say "where else are they going to go"? To which I'd reply....I'll stay home thank you very much!
