The President has battled the underlying cause of high gasoline prices since the first year in office - sending energy plans to Congress which would open up Anwar for drilling and which would encourage the development of more American sources of energy rather than to retain dependence on other nations, especially those in ME, for our energy resources. For four years these initiatives were rejected by the Dems and the "moderate" Repubs who believe the garbage that the environment would be damaged by drilling in Anwar. How else would you address the gas price problem?

It is a serious issue and this President knows it and has been addressing it even before the gas prices were this high - to no avail. He cannot pass legislation.

They are getting him an energy bill this year finally it seems but it will have little effect on energy prices in the short term. Much more needs to be done and this President knows it and would have loved to have been able to build on energy policies that had been put into legislation. You are listening too closely to the Dems who claim it is big oil that determines what this President does.

I am listening to conservatives with whom I talk each day. I am talking with hourly workers and retired executives who voice the sentiments that I posted.
Have you heard the president use the bully pulpit of his position to take the need for energy legislation to the people? I think the answer is no. The energy legislation the president says he wants is legislation that will primarily profit oil corporations and do damn little for the citizens of America.
Someone more informed than me will have to determine if oil from Anwar will reach the U.S. or will it be sent to the Orient.
