We all believe that conservative ideas are mainstream, and that it is the left that is extreme. I think that the President probably believes this too. So, what is wrong with his words?
I don't think there's anything wrong with what he has said. President Bush has made excellent nominations to the federal courts, and I expect he'll do the same for the Supreme Court. His use of of the word "mainstream" strikes me as shaping the battlefield, and I remain hopeful that he will nominate a true pro-life conservative to the Supreme Court.

We ARE the 'mainstream," not the minority liberals and other democrats! Election 2004 showed the American people had voiced their opinions overwhelming to that effect!! Just look at the map with the red States and Counties. 'Nuf said, and our President knows it!!!

some pro lifers are do not follow the constitution and are not too conservative. I want someone in the likes of Scalia, who are strict constructionists. The constitution says nothing about pro life.
