Not true. Baum and his wife were practicing theosophists.

Baum's mother-in-law, Matilda Joslyn Gage, was a radical lesbian feminist who traveled with the Baums and influenced them daily. Baum said he even named the main character of his later books, Princess Osma, after Gage: Matilda Joslyn Gage.
