Plame wasn't covert, so Fitzgerald has to be searching for someone who leaked before the year 2000. That's the last time she was classified. That's the Clinton administration.
1. Two years ago, the story was that Rove had deliberately shopped around Valerie Plame's name to six reporters as a way to punish her husband. Rove should be in jail because such a disclosure is a crime.
2. About a week ago, the story was that although Rove shopped Plame's name around, it wasn't a crime under the Protection Act, but Rove should be fired anyway because it's unethical.
3. Yesterday, the story was that although Rove didn't exactly leak Plame's name, it still wasn't very nice to confirm her identity, so he should still be fired.
4. Today, Plame wasn't really undercover, and Rove didn't really leak anything, and Wilson is kind of a self-promoting liar, but Rove should be fired anyway because...because...Iraq....WMD....liar, liar pants on fire!
Democrats are moving the goal post. As far as I'm concerned, they're playing with house money. Defending Rove (by us and others) requires a detailed explanation of an esoteric law and a rather complicated series of facts surrounding the case. The average American won't listen. But a blanket accusation against Rove by the Dems plays into their overall "Bush is a liar" template. It's easy to digest by the public. The Dems know this, and that's why they can get away with constantly changing their demands, and adjusting the condition of their "outrage." Only those of us who are paying attention recognize the dissembling of the Democrats...and we're crazy Freeper types, anyway.
The Dems know that this ship is sinking, IMHO. And that's why they're trying to inflict maximum damage before it all falls apart.
