I made an exception during the Presidential campaign.
Which candidate? The good car? Or the beater? And did you back the car out of the garage? :)
Actually, I put stickers on both my cars. I did not have any problem, but I was very nervous about it. Someone tore off one of the stickers, but that's as bad as it got.
This is getting very common.
People have no problem vandalizing automobiles for any displayed item.
The left was vandalizing cars with Bush bumper stickers,
then there are the keyed cars with the magnetic flag ribbons.
It is going to get to the point where you just can't have a car with an unmolested paint job.
