By International Law the US Embassy was considered US territory and was illegally seized by the Iranians.

By US Law all those forts, ports, armories, etc seized by the CSA was US territory.

If one party tears up an agreement made with other parties then take back property sold to another party such as the land for Forts without returning the money received then most consider that thief. Did Jeff Davis send a check to Washington covering the loss of such federal property as the Norfolk Naval Yard and various forts, custom houses, armories, etc?

Also most contracts have it written in them on how to legally break the contract. If you read the US Constitution then any disagreement between the States and Federal Government such as I would think Succession would be the deciding authority would be the US Supreme Court.

Since most of the actions of the Southern states up to the formal act of War between the states was prohibited by the US Constitution and every officeholder was required to uphold the supreme law of the Constitution then by not going through the courts and by seizing US property and making confederations, etc your Confederate heroes is as much as outlaws as the students who took over our embassy.
