The only contempt citation that works in a case like this is a fine, directed at an individual or organization that can pay it, that doubles every day. If the judge started with $1,000 and doubled it every day, the NYT would either come up with the source or end up being owned by the government in short order. The idea of a contempt citation is to coerce compliance with a court's order, not to create a wealthy martyr.
