"Ms. Miller learned about Valerie Plame from a confidential source or sources whose identity she continues to protect to this day. If the suggestion is that she is covering up for herself or some fictitious source, that is preposterous. Given that she is suffering in jail, it is also mean-spirited."
Yes!! I just posted a reply to a message above before I read your post - I was talking about Cliff May's important article in The National Review

discussing how Joe Wilson (or a "cut out" person close to him he may have used to shield himself from legal repercussions) apparently prepped David Corn (left-wing hack with the socialist rag "The Nation") and Corn had a hit-piece just two days after Novack's column, decrying alleged White House dirty tricks and providing a remarkable amount of hero-worship of Joe Wilson:

Any freepers with real contacts and/or research skills to develop this story should really explore this angle, I think: Wilson probably shopped his story to various reporters, one way or another his wife's position was referred to (possibly by Wilson himself, or else one of his buddies), and the whole brouhaha against Rove and the White House has been an enormous distraction from the real culprits.
The entire controversy was stupid from the get-go. What kind of 'revenge' motive would lead a WH figure to think "gee, why don't I out Wilson's CIA wife to punish Wilson for being such a brave dissenter?" I've always thought that seemed like a very very unlikely way for someone like Rove to think and act, but it fits perfectly with a shallow opportunistic grandstanding wannabe like Wilson who is imaginging the book he's going to write as he goes about trashing the administration.

Fitzgerald already has a major bone to pick with Miller. He believes she materially and dangerously impeded his investigation into a terrorist-financing scheme run by the Holy Land Foundation. When Miller found out that Fitzgerald was on the verge of indicting Holy Land, she called the Foundation for comment -- and right after her call Fitzgerald believes the Foundation may have commenced a shredding party that ensured prosecutors would find little paperwork to go on when they raided the Holy Land offices.
As the Washington Post put it, "On Dec. 3, 2001, Times reporter Judith Miller telephoned officials with the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, a Texas-based charity accused of being a front for Palestinian terrorists, and asked for a comment about what she said was the government's probable crackdown on the group. U.S. officials said this conversation and Miller's article on the subject in the Times on Dec. 4 increased the likelihood that the foundation destroyed or hid records before a hastily organized raid by agents that day."
Thanks.
(Putting my speculation cap on.) I think it's more likely that this is what happened:
Miller heard that the NYT was going to run with Wilson's editorial--or she just read it.
Miller being a long time Middle East expert knew who blowhard Wilson is--and who his wife is. (It's a thousand times more likely she would know this than Rove would.)
Miller called Rove. She asked for his take on Wilson's editorial, and mentioned in passing a) Plame works for CIA and maybe even b) she suggested Wilson for the trip.
Franklin knows (from WH logs and Rove's testimony) that Miller and Rove talked and she wants to hear her side of it.
IRC, it's been stated that Rove is not the subject of the investigation. So Franklin might want to know where Miller got her information.
This to my mind is the most likely scenario. And it's the one that best explains why Miller would be willing to go to jail than tell.
Ask yourself why Miller is constantly said to be protecting her "sources" when she never wrote an article about Plame. The only explanation is that she told somebody else Plame was in the CIA.
And since Franklin is asking about her conversation with a government official (who were are led to believe was in the WH), it's probably that Miller told Rove who then let it slip to Novak.
"suffering in jail?"
Good point.
So much grist, such a large mill.
Okay -- but is it false?
She wouldn't have to accept immunity.
"This is because Judith Miller is the source of the leak to either Novak or Rove or Libby and Fitzegerald wants to know who is her original source how did she get the information about Plame."
I posted my last reply before seeing yours. Yes, I agree. This is the only thing that makes sense of the information we have to date.
Miller has gone to jail to protect whoever told her Plame was CIA--which was probably Plame or Wilson, but it could have been a pal of theirs. Or even someone at the CIA, who might have also known that Wilson was sent to Niger due to Plame's recommendation.
And she also doesn't want to let Rove off the hook. As long as this can play, the media thinks it will damage Rove. So it's win-win for the NY Times. The truth be damned.
My guess is that Miller is protecting Novak.
Have you heard anything regarding Wilson granting/or not granting media the right to reveal anything he said?
Correction Sam. Rove did not tell Novak about "Wilson Wife" it was Novak who told him about her and Rove just said that he heard the same.
If I didn't know better, I'd say you just described Hillary.
No, I haven't heard anything about that. I don't see where he would have any power to stop them.
But I'm sure they are careful to avoid anything that might discredit him. Look at how they ignored the 9/11's findings with regard to Wilson's lies.
I think the NYSlimes is hiding/protection Martha Burk. There is a reason and a link to why she didn't show at the Master's this year. Connect the dots!
"Rove did not tell Novak about "Wilson Wife" it was Novak who told him about her and Rove just said that he heard the same."
You're right. I meant to type Cooper instead of Novak. And that is if we buy the media's spin on Cooper's email.
LOL! You owe me a monitor!
"You're right. I meant to type Cooper instead of Novak."
Cooper may have known before he spoke to Rove.
Sorry, it just seemed rather obvious.
