Awww, that wouldn't be any fun. The guidance counselors wouldn't get to counsel students, the consultants wouldn't make big fees running workshops and assemblies, teachers wouldn't get to turn in students on a whim, parents wouldn't have to go crazy finding out what degree of intolerance was alleged and determining if their darling actually did the alleged deed, books couldn't be written about tolerance and diversity, lawyers wouldn't be hired to resolve these issues or sue the school, and the hiring of additional school personnel to handle all this wouldn't occur.
See, you'd put a lot of people out of work. No, we can't have this.
It's called attendance records, and yes, they can force this. Compulsory education is just that.

A definite Need to Read, and pass along to others. It sounds as though the ACLU (headed by a homosexual activist, btw) and those promoting homosexuality are getting very desperate. If they cannot convince children that being "gay" is normal and natural, their attempt to totally transform society into their image will fail. Hence the extreme focus in getting into the schools.
(My personal opinion is that they are very afraid Bush will appoint conservative/originalist Supreme Court Justices, and their method of changing society by judicial fiat doesn't look so solid any more.)

Tolerance - I cannot use my view of you to punish you, simply for your view - can be mandated by law.
Acceptance - I accept you - cannot be mandated by law.
Tolerance does not require an imposition on how you think, only a restriction on your actions due to how you might think. Acceptance, true acceptance, can only occur in how you think. Any attempt to mandate acceptance is contrary to everything about a free society.

I agree wholeheartedly, and ask, why oh why do good folks send their kids to govt. school? It costs a whole lotta money to do anything else (except homeschooling I guess, but that means mom has to stay home and not be able to bring in the second income) but I will tell anyone most emphatically, I would rather cut off my right arm than send my kids to a public school. (Might as well call it a pubic school)

We keep saying this, but the news keeps getting worse and worse, and no one is doing any thing about it.
It's time to dismantle government schools altogether. Who the hell gave the government the right to control children? If the gov't can't handle roads, how can they handle children?
