The Sons of Liberty: "Starr was a pi$$-poor Special Prosecutor, I'm glad he's not in the running for the Supreme Court!"

Unfortunately, I wouldn't count Starr out yet. If he wanted to meet with the Clintons, he must have wanted something from them. A single word from Hillary could transform Starr into the Democrats' favorite candidate for the Supreme Court, and Starr knows it.

Hillary's endorsement would compel the Dems to embrace Starr just as they suddenly turned around and embraced Alberto Gonzales, whom they had previously accused of being a latter-day Josef Mengele.

Think of what an asset Starr could be to the Dems. In a horse trade over Supreme Court appointments, the Dems could count Starr as a "conservative." In exchange for approving Starr, they could demand that Bush appoint an ultra-leftist radical to the court. Then the Dems would get a twofer — two Supreme Court justices, one radical, one "conservative" — but both taking orders from Hillary.
