He hates this country, and by extension, those who try to defend it--especially the CIA and other intel agencies. (Cf. the Democrat party.)
He wasn't arrested because he went to Cuba.
And also, since there was a law against doing this that I'm aware of until after the fact. Though he was complicit in murder.
