I think Bush/Rove are letting these fools stick their necks out again. A foaming at the mouth loony-bin opponent is one's greatest ally in politics.
You are right about them being mad because he cleaned their clocks with Bush,
But, I also think they are worried that he will move on to the next candidate, and some congresscritters and do for them, what he did for Bush.
What they don't figure on, I guess, is that any Republican candidate would take Rove in a heartbeat whether he loses his security clearance or even his job at the White House...
