A sex offender "with predatory tendencies" was prescribed Viagra when he lived at a recently shuttered south suburban nursing home, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan disclosed Tuesday.
"This is really egregious," Madigan said after a news conference announcing new safeguards to protect nursing home residents from sex offenders and other ex-cons living alongside them. "Why would you ever be prescribing Viagra for a sex offender in a nursing home where you have residents who are clearly vulnerable?"
Sex offenders on Viagra became an issue in May when New York found that Medicaid dollars were paying for 198 sex offenders in that state to get the impotence drug after being convicted. The federal government called for all states to stop the practice.
Illinois public aid officials continued to maintain Tuesday that no sex offenders here had received Medicaid-reimbursed Viagra.
Cara Smith, Madigan's policy director, said it's a mystery who paid for the nursing home resident's prescription. Virtually every resident of Emerald Park Healthcare Center in Evergreen Park was on a government health plan.
Madigan pointed to the Viagra prescription as one example of what was wrong at Emerald Park, which the state shut down last month following problems with sex offenders and others with criminal backgrounds living there.

It's no mystery why they won't admit who paid for it. As usual, the taxpayer.
It is amazing to me how these liberal idiots in the main stream media report these stories with absolutely no sense of irony that this is the some stupid govt. they want to force on all of us.
Because Medicare paid for it and because the care takers have a problem with what is right and wrong.
Here is another thought, who is to say that the patient actually ever took the Viagra pill, it could be that one of the staff sold it to outsiders or took it themselves.

Pray tell, just how is the doctor supposed to know that the individual in question is a sex offender? It isn't like they have a big S emblazoned on their shirt or a tattoo on the forehead (both intriguing ideas BTW).
I don't know that the doctor knows or needs to know that information, but the government agency paying for the prescription with tax dollars certainly should know.
LOL, but wouldn't that be discrimination!!! Oh my, we could never do that.
