These days, the Heritage Foundation, the Cato Institute, and other such think tanks are giving it a run for its money.

As far as getting on TV news shows, maybe, or holding events where they can schmooze with politicians and get C-SPAN coverage.

There is one significant difference, though. Anyone can "join" the Heritage Foundation by sending them a check. As I understand it, one has to be invited to join the CFR, and only an elite few are so invited. (Someone posted a membership list a few years ago, but I wouldn't know where to find it. Anybody know?)
