It did not take long for cities and other political subdivisions to wade in with amendments to try and water down protection the people of Texas would get from strong eminent domain legislation.
Time to write, and call your local representatives and tell them to support the original bill as written.
Arlington Texas is attempting to add amendments to the bill because of their attempt to use eminent domain to acquire land to build a new Cowboy Stadium.
If every political subdivision is allowed to exempt their pet projects, we are no better off than we were under the SCOTUS ruling.
They already did this before to build the Ballpark in Arlington.
ping.
Both for the community, and for those being relocated. trust me, those being relocated are getting (for their properties and their 'incovenience') far more than what their properties are actually worth.
The only REAL noice comes from the ambulance-chasing lawyers who have hooked-up with these 'to-be-relocated' residents for the sake of lining their own greedy pockets.
I guess an honest question is in order. If it were your home that Arlington was taking for the new stadium, would you be for the project.
Took time to read your about page.
Thanks for your service Doc.
That's an excellent question. I'm going to wait for the answer.
There's a twist to throw in with respect to future seizures though, as defined in the TransTexas Corridor boondoggle. Your property can be seized for any reason related to the original plan, and the state does not have to tell you till they have to.. Example, you may be in the way of the 'road', but the road wont be built for 20 years.. So, the state collects property taxes from you, your mortagage company get's paid, until the state then tells you, 91 days to get out....AND, they do not have to compensate you one thin dime.
Here is one point of reference:

Having said that.. still, it's against the constitution to take a private person's land and give to private person. As long as people agree that a nibble here and a nibble their on their rights given in the constitution, is okay by them, the constitution disappears a bite at a time. What MUST be understood, is that this legislation was signed by the Gov., without the vote of the people.. So, those who now say, well, we voted FOR it or AGAINST it, have no voice in IT whatsoever.. is that still okay with some?? Probably. They don't get it, and aren't in the way right now.. But their turn will come. Seizures have been in the planning stages all over the country waiting on the ruling by the USSC...and NOW, finally, the electorate is waking up to our fight to save our constitutional rights.. Whether it's YOUR property or not, we must all fight to protect our land. Without land rights, the power of the government over you and your livelihood is nearly complete. God knows they are selling your voice to foreign interests.
:) Thanks for the ping Alia!!
Just for reference within this thread as an FYI.

I will post when I confirm
Would not hurt to call your State Senator and ask.
...yes, if I were one of those to be relocated,
...AFTER a vote of the residents (who cared one way or the other) affirmed the decision to implement the eminent domain strategy,
I would learn to live with the vote of my neighbors.
And by the way...thanks for your service in the Corps, and the kind words.
I'm not sure where the Trans Texas Corridor stands.
I for one think Alberto Gonzales is right where he belongs.
