Paris city hall will not honour Scientologist Cruise
Tue Jul 12, 7:42 AM ET
The Paris city hall has pledged not to make US actor Tom Cruise an honorary citizen because of his membership of the Church of Scientology.
In a debate late Monday, the Socialist-controlled municipal assembly approved a resolution "never to welcome the actor Tom Cruise, spokesman for Scientology and self-declared militant for this organisation."
Last month on a promotional tour for his film "War of the Worlds," the 43-year-old star chose the Eiffel Tower to propose to girlfriend Katie Holmes. He was also made an honorary citizen of the southern French city of Marseille.
Like many other European governments, the French authorities view Scientology -- founded in the United States in 1954 by science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard -- as a dangerous cult.
Cruise was described as a "sect-symbol" by a Socialist deputy.

I'm sorry that you're so naive. What you don't understand is that their motives aren't "pure" and any kind of counseling or mental help may undo their programming.
Can you add anything, nully?
You mean like the free personality test?
Eeeew. When was the last time the heterosexual Tom Cruise washed his hair?
I had the book dianetics................and I must say that it is the one and only book that I just could not finish reading. It is wierd/sick stuff..........made no sense to me and was boring beyond belief.
I'm interested in anything you could tell us. Scientology is much more widespread than many people think and frankly it frightens me. I'm glad you were able to escape. As Mom always said, "know the enemy" right? I'm all ears.(purely as a research project fellow freepers I'm Methodist and plan to stay that way)
Like I said scary stuff.
Excuse me? Have you ever been around a child with severe ADHD? Met the parents? Hmmmmmm? I have a child (one out of 6 BTW) that suffers from severe ADHD. For your information I am NOT a bad parent. (And just in case you are wondering no he is not on medications and I do not take antidepressants.)
Ask away.
I'm thinking of starting my own thread based on the questions I've been asked lately.
I had exactly the opposite experience. It just clicked with me. I read it in one night, and was taking my first course the very next week end.
YMMV...
That sounds like a good idea. Would you please ping me to it if you do?
OK
It's wierd......now that there is someone to ask I can't think of all the questions I've been saving up lol.
Yeah. The car always quits making that noise with the mechanic standing there.
Hehehehe. You have mail.
You too.
Nuh uh you do lol.
You still do not understand, do you! Depression is a disease. One can not turn it on and off at will. If I could, I certainly would. I am not pleased with having to take medication, but it is the only thing that really helps. I have been to countless therapists who have had any number of ideas of how I can change. However, NONE of them has suggested my not taking the medications.
Tag, you're it.
Exactly! How dare you make judgments on something you obviously have no real knowledge. If some poor soul took to heart what you have said and stopped taking his or her medications, there most probably would be a terrible end.
