US Urging Israel to "move Forward" Despite Netanya Bombing
Published: Jul 12, 2005 WASHINGTON (AP) - The Bush administration, condemning Tuesday's deadly bombing in Israel, urged Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to "move ahead" toward establishing a Palestinian state despite the violence.
The immediate focus should be withdrawal from Gaza and part of the West Bank, as Sharon has pledged to do later this summer, State Department spokesman Tom Casey said.
Evidently concerned that Sharon might stop at that point because Palestinian leaders have not dismantled terror groups, Casey said the planned pullout was a "genuine opportunity" to move forward on a blueprint for Palestinian statehood.
"Obviously, that progress would have to continue, and ultimately we want to see the president's (Bush's) vision of two states living side by side in peace achieved," Casey said.
Both White House spokesman Scott McClellan and the State Department spokesman condemned the deadly suicide bombing at a shopping mall in the seaside city of Netanya. "There is no justification for the murder of innocent civilians," McClellan said.
Both spokesmen said the bombing was the work of terrorists trying to derail Mideast peace efforts. They said they did not know whether any Americans were among the casualties.
The blueprint, or road map toward peace, calls in its first stage for Palestinian leaders to dismantle terror groups.
"The Palestinian Authority needs to act to dismantle terrorist organizations and to stop attacks from happening in the first place," McClellan said.
Casey, while affirming Israel's right to self-defense, appeared to caution Israel about any retaliation. "We ask them to consider the consequences of any actions they might take," he said.

HA HA HA HA HA. Everyone clamours to follow the road map, and yet the Palestinians have openly defied the most basic element. Our state dept, keeps calling for Israel to make concessions. It is madness.
Which goes to show that those provisions don't mean squat -- we'll give the terrorists what they want regardless.
Abu Mazen's attempt to crack down on his terrorst population is half-hearted, at best. He knows he'd be killed if he went after them in earnest. ....And anyway, he shares their goals -- the complete destruction of "the Zionist entity."

Out of common decency, it's a shame they couldnt wait till the bodies were cold. Therell be plenty of time to scold Israel tomorrow.

Indeed it is. Rather than publicly urging Abu Mazen to crack down on the regional terror groups so that condition #1 of his worthless "roadmap" can be met, President Bush urges Israel to "move ahead" despite Palestinian non-compliance.
...right after promising to give the PA billions of American taxpayer dollars, of course.

Maybe it is just a coincidence.
not.
Ignore the elephant in the room (terrorism) as you march on the path to insecurity.
Making Israel unsafe does not make America more safe.
It's disgusting.
