Bush Aide Deflects Questions on Rove (WaPo Version)
The Washington Post ^ | Tuesday, July 12, 2005 | Mike Allen and Dan Balz

SNIP

Sen. John F. Kerry (Mass.), last year's Democratic presidential nominee, said in an e-mail to supporters: "It's perfectly clear that Rove -- the person at the center of the slash and burn, smear and divide tactics that have come to characterize the Bush Administration -- has to go."

SNIP

In retrospect, it appears clear that many White House statements about the case were carefully constructed -- giving the impression of being general denials even as the words were narrowly focused on specific allegations. During briefings, McClellan repeatedly challenged reporters to provide him "specific information" when asking about Rove, and he frequently limited his answers about White House involvement in the case to mean the act of leaking classified information.

SNIP

Robert Luskin, Rove's attorney, acknowledged over the weekend that his client had discussed the subject -- without naming Plame -- with Cooper, one of the two reporters threatened with jail time for not cooperating with Fitzgerald. Cooper avoided jail last week after being granted a waiver by Rove to testify. New York Times reporter Judith Miller was sent to jail and remains there after refusing to testify.

SNIP

Luskin said again yesterday that there is nothing inconsistent with what Cooper's e-mail said and what Rove has said throughout the inquiry, and he said his client continues to cooperate fully with Fitzgerald, including the prosecutor's request for Rove and his attorney not to publicly discuss the case.

"It puts Karl in a no-win position," Luskin said. "If he doesn't talk to [reporters], he subjects himself to criticisms like we're hearing from the Democrats on why he won't come forward and talk about his role. But if he does . . . he runs the risk of being accused of not cooperating with the investigation."

I sure feel better knowing what John Kerry thinks about all this.

Can you imagine how big it will be if the Dems can get the man in charge of Bush's re-election bid to step down? Only a year after the election?

The only thing I want to hear from that d-bag Kerry is when is he going to sign an unconditional disclosure of his military record. Inquiring minds STILL want to know.

Valerie Plame sent her husband on taxpayer expense paid trip to Africa so he could come back and write in the New York Times that "Bush lied". She should be prosecuted for misappropriation of federal funds. And, no, Karl Rove did not leak any classified information.

" Robert Luskin, Rove's attorney, acknowledged over the weekend that his client had discussed the subject -- without naming Plame -- with Cooper."

Maybe Kerry and Reid can answer these two questions :
How did Rove identify Plame-without naming her ?
Since it appears that Rove did not name Plame,
then who did ?
I know that logic and facts are generally incompatible with being a Democrat , so I will not hold my breath awaiting an answer.

I think he's a genius, and way too smart to "leak" anything to a member of the press.
The investigation is still going on. In my opinion, they want the press to keep out of it, because they're getting close to whoever did it (Wilson?). They don't want to mess this up.

Not big at all. If they did it one year before the election, now THAT would be a big deal.

Or maybe you were being sarcastic.

Forget the democrats. They've cried "wolf" so many times, no one pays attention to them anymore.
Stick with the investigation. It will definitely pay off in the end. It'll really be worth it.

Translation: media asked poor questions.

Got to wonder if old JFKerry did not put all this in motion. Wilson was "selected" to protect Saddam, at least that is the way his NYTimes article sounds. Wilson then ends up on the JFKerry team.

Sore loser. He got really, really creamed in the 2004 election. He's gotten as crazy as Al Gore!

Sounds like a little revenge for waxing the floor with the Dems in 2004. Maybe Kerry can run another race against just Rove and see if he can pull that off. I doubt it though.

Here is the precise language from Matthew Cooper's e-mail to his editors:

"it was, KR said, wilson's wife, who apparently works at the agency on wmd issues who authorized the trip."

Valerie Plame authorized the trip. So yes, she sent her husband.
