New Qaeda threats to the UAE
By Stephen Ulph
Additional threats from the mujahideen against the United Arab Emirates emerged
at the end of July, with a renewed warning from a group calling itself the "al-Qaeda
Organization in the Emirates and Oman". It called for the dismantling of all U.S.
military installations within ten days, failing which the UAE rulers would "endure the
first of the mujahideen in your faces."
This warning follows (and indeed refers back to) a similar warning issued on the
forums in March this year (see Focus, Volume 2, Issue 7) which focused on the
issue of Jewish and Christian presence, the U.S. military installations and the role
of the country in training the Iraqi police. As with the last posting, which illustrated
the offences' committed by the government with a photograph of the USS Kitty
Hawk arriving at Jebel Ali for supplies, the statement highlighted how scouting
missions had found the vessels USS Harry S Truman and USS John F. Kennedy at
Dubai, ships which had been used to "bombard the Muslims in Iraq and
Afghanistan." Since the March posting, the earlier message had been recently
reposted, and interest in the Gulf state continues on the forums. On May 22 a
posting on the jihadi forum Tajdeed highlighted the ongoing talks with Canada on
the secret base' out in the desert near Dubai, which has been used as a
forwarding base for troops "since the time of the dispatch of Canadian forces
participating with international forces to maintain security in Afghanistan."
[www.tajdeed.org.uk] Some shrill comments were also voiced at the time of the
earlier warning on the al-Sahwa jihadi forum, where the visit by a Dubai official to
Israel to discuss the purchase of settler homes to be vacated in Gaza caused
outrage. It also noted with disapproval how "Dubai is being rapidly changed into a
secular state" with the "profound use of unIslamic ways." [www.as-sahwah.com]
The UAE has mainly been active in the War on Terror on the financial front,
through tightening up its banking procedures. After the Sept. 11 2001 attacks on
the United States, the UAE was identified as a major center used by al-Qaeda in
transferring money to the hijackers. The Emirates quickly put into place new
measures to freeze accounts tied to suspected terrorists and clamped down on
money laundering. But more cogent for the mujahideen is the stationing of U.S.
troops in the Gulf state during the 2003 war to oust Saddam Hussein. It has also
made some high profile arrests and extraditions of al-Qaeda members. Last August
UAE security authorities detained Qari Saifullah Akhtar, a senior al-Qaeda
operative who had trained thousands of militants for combat in Afghanistan and
who was believed to have been involved in two attempts to assassinate Pakistani
President General Pervez Musharraf. Akhtar was subsequently turned over to
Pakistan. Probably more directly linked to the present threats was the extradition
announced on December 24 of al-Qaeda's top Gulf operative, Abd al-Rahim
al-Nashiri, to the United States. Al-Nashiri was suspected of planning to blow up
vital installations in the Gulf state. The al-Qaeda chief was one of the most
dangerous on a list of 20 al Qaeda members prepared by the U.S. and one of the
main suspects for the 1998 attacks on U.S. Embassies in Nairobi and Mombasa, the
bombing on the USS Cole and the October 2002 attack on French oil Tanker
Limburg [www.khaleejtimes.co.ae].
The question is whether this latest warning is a considered response, or simply
more saber-rattling. The new group claims that it has been massing brigades
throughout the Emirates, and gave a list of potential targets: Jebel Ali port, the
airports at Dubai and Abu Dhabi and the Dubai Investment Collective Center.
Unlike the previous posting, this time the threat is staking its credibility on a
deadline.

LOL!
I can't stand Clarke.
Despicable, opportunistic, little man.
He resembles a snake when he speaks, with his pursed mouth and flicking tongue.
Now, where else but FR and TM would I learn that? ;-)
So how did security look in NYC this afternoon? Different from one week ago?
Very interesting article.
So, the time is up for UAE right around 8/11.
See, now they're just making up excuses to attack people. Has anyone considered that all they need is a good hug?
Sorry. Had to lighten it up just a bit.
Back to stressing now...
Madrid bombers picked attack date on day after bin Laden threatened
Spain: report

MADRID - Investigators believe the masterminds of last yearâs Madrid
train bombings set the date for their attack one day after Osama bin
Laden threatened Spain and other foreign nations with troops in Iraq, a
newspaper report said on Friday.
The Al Qaeda chief, in a video that aired Oct. 18, 2003, warned of
attacks on US allies that had dispatched troops to Iraq, including Britain,
Australia and Spain.
The next day, a key suspect in the Madrid bombings purchased a cell
phone in Belgium under a false name, and as a birth date gave March 11,
1921, El Pais said, citing a confidential police report to the judge
investigating the attacks that killed 191 people.
Police also believe the bombers chose that date to influence Spanish
general elections - which were expected in March 2004 - and because March
11, 2004, was exactly 2 1/2 years after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in
the United States, the report said.
âIt thus seems the perpetrators considered themselves heirsâ to
Sept. 11, the police report said.

"Al-Qaida in Palestine (Gaza)"
Judging by the State of Washington's governor's race, it wouldn't matter if the voters were citizens or not, alive or dead, felons or not. If we're not around to elect them, there'll be replacements for us.
Survey question on the main thread list is whether we trust MSM media. Moot question - if we did, we wouldn't be here looking for the truth!
Example of what happens when people are tired of costly trials, exhorbitant attorney fees and liberal judges!
Whoever hired the workers should be responsible for what happened to the workers given there wasn't even potable water available for them to drink - could this be Al Qaeda?
Terror suspect headshots debated
Sheik's invitation to conference questioned
Some roadside bombs used in Iraq are made in Iran
Drills to be held to protect Panama Canal from terrorist attack
See, now they're just making up excuses to attack people. Has anyone
considered that all they need is a good hug? <<<<
Wow! you must have had quite a lunch.
We are not granting you permission to leave the T.M. for
any further 2 drink lunches.......
Be careful to hug, before the timer goes off, or it will be a hug you never forget.
Around 4% of gems on the world market are classed as "conflict
diamonds".
"We can make an impact on conflict diamonds... and prevent the
dreadful scenes we saw in Sierra Leone. We need to protect a
legitimate industry which employs huge numbers of people,"
added Mr Wright. <<<<<<<
From your link.
There is a very good chance that the miners are mining for
al Qaeda.
More than likely they are captives in the wars by the muslims, who like to wipe out whole villages.

Put them together and it spells trouble.
Still no info on cause and origin.
Thanks...we're all going to be fine now though. One day at a time!
Also, I had quit smoking in February when I was in the hospital...and the 23rd of this month is my 6 month "non-Smoker" anniversary! Even through the horror we've been through...I only took 2 puffs...and immediately got ill. So I tried, but couldn't go back. LOL (It still smells good to me though...)
Thanks TWhiteBear.
There isn't one diamond in my home I'm proud to say. My jewelry consists of chained crucifixes and a university pin my husband gifted me with prior to our engagement and marriage (very old pin with sentimental attachment). The rest of it is fake jewelry. Fancy jewelry just doesn't impress me much. I'd rather have nifty mineral specimens or fossils :-)
