WASHINGTON--The White House went on the defensive Monday amid a barrage of questions...about...Karl Rove and whether he had disclosed the name of a covert intelligence operative....
President George W. Bush's chief spokesman, Scott McClellan, declined to repeat his earlier assertions that Rove, the deputy White House chief of staff, had had nothing to do with leaking the name of the operative, Valerie Plame of the CIA, to get back at her husband, a former U.S. ambassador who had publicly challenged Bush administration policy....
"The president directed the White House to cooperate fully with the investigation, and as part of cooperating fully with the investigation, we made a decision that we weren't going to comment on it while it is ongoing," McClellan said at a news briefing....
The spotlight focused on Rove over the weekend, when Newsweek reported on its Web site that Rove had spoken with at least one reporter about Plame's role at the CIA, although without identifying her by name, a few days before the columnist Robert Novak identified her in a column about her husband, Joseph Wilson IV....
The controversy has been brewing in Washington for two years. It reached a new intensity this month with the jailing of a New York Times reporter, Judith Miller, who never wrote an article about the matter but resisted demands from prosecutors to reveal whom she had talked to about it.
Another reporter, Matthew Cooper of Time magazine, avoided jail when his company yielded to a demand to turn over his notes on the matter. Novak, meanwhile, has appeared to be under no threat of jail, for reasons that are not clear. He has said he will be able to clear things up one day....

Ping FYI. The reply of Captain John Paul Jones to the Captain of the Serapis was, "I HAVE NOT YET BEGUN TO FIGHT!" and JPJ proceeded to win that battle....
Oh, yes. The "challenge" in this case was, however, a complete fabrication by Mr. Wilson. Yet somehow that salient fact is never mentioned.
My take on this is there is no way Judith Miller would take the rap if Rove was the one who spilled the beans. And the news continues to indicate he did not leak Valerie Plame name directly to anyone. They just want to continue hammering away at the administration, instead of doing some honest reporting in Iraq to see how much truly is being accomplished. Anything to avoid taking about a mostly quiet Iraq, and building up of the new Iraqi army and police and how they are taking the fight to the various terrorist groups and insurgents, sort of putting the detergent to the insurgents if I may.
Wilson lied, yellowcake facts died....
"getting back" at people is how Clinton operated, and they suppose everyone is vindictive like they are, and project this on Bush.
How do we know Plame wasn't a double agent for North Korea, Red China or Cuba? She is, afterall, married to Wilson who has set out to destroy President Bush. Could be why she was outed. You never know when it comes to "spies."
I guess he got tired of answering the same BS question for the hundredth time.
Journalism class nowadays consists of how to twist words and take statements out of context.
No time to report the facts.
Uhhhh, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Novak assist prosecutors and the grand jury in their investigation to avoid any trouble???
Can you say "Full Court Press?"
I knew you could.
The Rats have been trying to get Rove from the very beginning. Glad to say they aren't going anywhere.
Well, I dunno about this whole thing. It does seem Rove did mention her. We can quibble over his mention of her name or not, but that's really a technical point. If he IDed her as Wilson's wife, then he may as well haev said her name. Name or no, that's still a specific person being mentioned as a CIA employee.
Now was it illegal? It doesn't seem to be.
But was Rove the one who leaked her ID? It seems he might have been, as non-malevolent as his motives seem to be.
Did the President promise to dismiss anyone who was involved in the leak?
Well, yeah.
So while rove doesn't seem to have committed a crime, it might be time for him to step outside the White House.
It's not like that would make him any less potent a force, in the end.
The solution to this is to throw economic wrenches into the MSM spin machines. Let's find ways to convince the advertisers to stop advertising--and subscribers to stop subscribing. No MSM, no propaganda, no problem....
Problem is, many of them are run by rich, liberal elitists.
Rove is a genius. He has the liberal media once again circling the drain, chasing their tails to 'prove' a connection to a crime that was never committed.
As usual, they will walk all the way out to the edge of the cliff and look down before they decide to pull the plug on their made-up story. When was the last time you heard about the Downing Street Memo, hmmmm?
Same deal and the media is too stupid to realize yet how twisted up on this story they've become.
Give it a week...
If the liberals were aware of this in 03 (PRIOR TO THE ELECTIONS), why don't you think they made mention of it then? So by "stepping outside" today, why do you think Rove does not look like any "less potent a force"?
Your right on, with your points. I tried to point to this out to my 87 year old mom, tonight as NBC yet again, filth bags,
showed a picture of Karl as no brains Williams spouted the party line, errrr NBC, line, errrrr where do we draw the line for the past twenty five years. Answer, there is no line. But it serves their purpose, eat up precious prime time news, with garbage, after all the consumer payes their salaries. Glad we got this site and like minded ones to get our news at.
How in the hell can a 'covert agent' not be outed when tbeir are photos of her and her husband w/Bill Clinton?
