I agree, but it won't happen. It doesn't even have a political prayer, since it involves a Constitutional amendment.
All it takes is a SUCCESFUL Supreme Court ruling.

Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.
But this wont happen either!

All of those that have many children and continue to suck our welfare system dry....this is one of the problems with those coming to our country and have multiple childrenSo what do you propose?
Shall we forcibly sterilize female immigrants?
Shall we stop welfare programs altogether?
Shall we pass a law saying that only American-born women, or naturalized women as well, are entitled to social services?
Or should we admit to ourselves that too many American adults are, mentally, selfish children who would rather indulge their personal whims than have children of their own?
The baby boomers need a tax base to keep them in Social Security checks, and since they themselves had fewer children than any previous American generation, they need other people's children to exploit.
Immigrants endure quite a few hardships, take big risks to get here, and work pretty darn hard when they do.
As far as I am concerned they're every bit as entitled to my tax money (i.e. not at all) as lazy, American-born layabouts who collect welfare despite growing up with benefits that most immigrants would consider an unimaginable dream.
In fact, I'd rather my tax money go to help a recent immigrant get started in this country than see it spent on a third-generation native-born slacker.

My grandparents bought a home in El Paso, Texas before my 1st birthday. Some of the best memories of my childhood (up till age 8 or 9) were spent in that neat neighborhood.
I had not been there since my grandmother died in 1969. Two years ago, I visited the old neighborhood. It was a shock.
That nice, neat, tidy, friendly place had transformed into a slum, with dirt yards instead of the once well-manicured lawns. The trees were all dead or dying. I heard not one word of English the time I was there. It was quite a nasty place.

So, you paint all immigrants today with a wide brush that says they are law breakers, welfare cheats, and don't want to assimilate into this country?
If the immigration "problem" is so bad, and todays immigrants are so lazy and worthless, how does so much U.S. currency get sent back to the small hometowns in Mexico and China to their families?
You ignore the fact that local community college courses are brimming over with immigrants trying to learn the language.
You look out the window of your car, see sidewalks full of foreigners and condemn them. More likely they are working stiffs heading off to their manual labors in the factories and the road crews, producing in the American way.
If you dare get around the barrios, or China town, or Little Italy, and spend some time in them, you would find a culture rich in tradition and evolving into the American culture.

Immigration is what has made America free and strong. That is history, not the current situation. We dont have any empty land anymore. There is nothing to homestead. There are not millions of factory jobs that cannot be filled.
The situation now is overcrowding, and competing for what jobs will remain after free trade sends most of the jobs to asia.
50,000 immigrants come into this country each week, and Job growth is not keeping up with the increase in numbers of immigrants entering our labor market, which means less jobs available for American citizens.

Here is what I propose:
If you are on welfare with one child then our welfare system will not cover any child after that...this is about responsibility...somehow we have become a society of if you can't be smart enough to not have more children OUR government has to pay for...... then the rest of our population will. Why??? Why am I responsible for your children? I am a compassionate person but our welfare system is out of control and getting bigger. Be it immigrants or Americans...the wider the door for welfare swings open...the more people find excuses to get on it...I am not responsible for those people!!!!

There are many LEGAL immigrants here, who came from Ireland, Germany, South Africa, Canada, etc. and they aren't on welfare and are thrilled, when they become American citizens. You want them to leave? You are saying that AMERICAN CITIZENS, who weren't born here, must now leave? You want all of the long time, aged, American citizens, who managed to get here after the Holocaust and the Hungarian Revolution of '56, for example, to be kicked out?
HittmanNYC has already said that he is a first generation American and you want his mother sent back to Italy?

You will love it! We moved into central Florida (Ocala) as a temp site until we decided where to actually anchor.. it is terrific.. in spite of the crazies and weather.. my husband is in heaven - golfing, fishing etc... I can get to my international travel in a New York minute..but be aware that Florida has a huge population of Cubans and Central Americans.. so we all speak Spanish... welcome to our state and I look forward to hearing how you like it.. by the way, we have just about settled on an area just on the north side of Weeki Wachee...a community "Woodland Waters".. truly nice.. only about 30 minutes from Tampa...

The unemployment figures came out last friday, and we are at 5%. If unemployment gets any lower, inflation will start to kick in, and that will be worse than high unemployment. BTW, 5% unemployment is considered the ideal figure, and all thanks to President Bushs vision for this country.

OK.. now you are working on the real question.. in my humble opinion, I am not sure that this is just an immigration issues...it is more about subsidized health care and welfare... several years ago I conducted a study on hospitals, discovering that anywhere from 50 - 80 percent of their resources were tax based.. Not third party type (private insurance etc) but rather from our taxes.. I don't know where this statistic lands today, but I am willing to guess that it still holds.. perhaps even stronger.. this was in Fresno.. the Private hospital in Fresno had a bit over 40% tax based revenue.. also.. several zip codes in Fresno had 100% of their children on full free meal programs...
When I think of all of the immigration - I also think of my husbands family - immigrated from Ireland.. all working etc.. and so many other immigrants that have contributed to our nation... but the core is WORK..and self determination.. the question is how do we make sure that all legal immigrants have the capacity to make their own living and then make sure that we keep illegals out of the country... it really centers on personal responsibilities.. which is non-legislative-able(not a word).. but I like it..

You left out two very important characteristics: They were law abiding and they wanted to assimilate.Law abiding? You referring to Jewish gangsters? Irish Pug Uglies? The Italian Cosa Nostra? There have been criminal elements in every American immigrant group, and I'd posit that Latin Americans have brought less organized crime to the US than most other groups.
