Report: 41 Percent Of Births To Foreign-Born Mothers

Immigrant mothers gave birth to 41 percent of the babies born in Denver in 2002, says a report by a group that favors limiting immigration.
The Center for Immigration Studies said nationally 23 percent of babies were born to foreign-born mothers. The 2002 figures are the latest available.
Immigrant mothers accounted for only 15 percent of the births in Denver and nationally in 1990. The share of births to immigrant mothers has at least doubled since 1990 in the populous Front Range counties.
The center's study said Colorado was fifth in percentage of births to illegal immigrants.
Dr. Richard Jones, 58, interim chief of obstetrics for the Denver Health citywide system of clinics, said he took classes at night after work to hone his Spanish-speaking skills.
"It doesn't matter where you are from," Jones said. "We'll take care of you and your baby."
Denver Health does not track the nationality of birth mothers, but officials said the cost of serving the uninsured is growing. Last year it totaled $285 million last year, up from $100 million in 1991, spokeswoman Bobbi Barrow said.
Denver Public Schools spokesman Mark Stevens said officials are prepared for the increase in immigrant children.
"Our role is to take kids where they are when we get them and move them forward," Stevens said. "That is something we are very used to dealing with here. We have programs and services in place. We've been at this business for quite a while. The numbers may change a little bit. Our job is to find the most talented teachers available who enjoy and see the benefits of working with that population."

Don't apologize to me for asking a simple question, those are the only kind I can answer! ;-)
I guess it's like going into a department store where they give you free clothes. There's no incentive not to go there.

It has to do with foreigners coming here and having alot of children so that they automatically become citizensPuh-leeeze.
If you want to have a citizen child for INS leverage, one child is just as good as five.
These women have large families because they didn't grow u[p in a culture where having a large family was considered abnormal or barbaric.
That's all.

I wonder what the percentage was in 1920? Pretty close I bet. Those kids and grandkids assimilated. We'll see how this generation does.
First of all the percentage of foreign born has never been higher then it is today. Even during the immigration peak before the First world War.
Second, the big difference between then and now is prior immigrants either assimilated, or were trapped in the bottom rung. No welfare, no foreign language instruction, no voting in other languages, or drivers licenses, or any services for the non English speaking. As late as the 1950's when my family arrived, they got zero help from the government, and learned English within a month so they could survive. The pressure to assimilate was immense. That is not the case now. We broke the melting pot in the name of "diversity" and "multiculturalism".

I'm tired of the cesspool called "Houston", lived here most of my life and hate seeing what is happening here. I bought 6.5 acres in central Florida (Micanopy area) and am retiring to the countryside.

I have bad news for you...it's exactly the same way in Central Florida (where I call home) except no Mexicans. We get the Puerto Ricans and Haitians. Don't get me wrong, I love central florida and will probably be here forever, but my husband can't stand his commute everyday because of the wreckless drivers around here (he says it's all the foreigners), but I see some pretty sorry a** white kids around here too.

The American culture has and always will be assimilating immigrants into America.
From the earliest days of this great country, we have taken the strongest, the freedom loving, and the downtrodden people from other countries, used their steel, their intellect, and their determination to be free to build America.
Remember the Irish, the Chinese, the Mexicans the Poles, and the freed slaves were the ones that gave their sweat, their blood, and even their lives to build our railroads, our towns, and our roads.
Immigration is what has made America free and strong. With the exception of Native Americans, we all descended from immigrants.

All of those that have many children and continue to suck our welfare system dry....this is one of the problems with those coming to our country and have multiple children.... If you are on welfare with one child ..please do not continue to have more children on welfare

that's right.
part of the problem stems from our own birth decline.
the ww2 generation had 3,4, and even 5 kids.
but the boomer generation wanted birth control and abortions so they'd have money to buy things. the same holds for the children of immigrants who do the same as americans.

I have no problem what so ever with the fact that "41% of births are to foreign born mothers"...that is provided that those foreign born mothers learn to speak English, work hard and pay their taxes, become a citizen, and most importand support, protect and defend the US Constitution from all enemies foreign or domestic.

From the earliest days of this great country, we have taken the strongest, the freedom loving, and the downtrodden people from other countries,You left out two very important characteristics: They were law abiding and they wanted to assimilate.
