Immigrant mothers gave birth to 41 percent of the babies born in Denver in 2002, says a report by a group that favors limiting immigration.
The Center for Immigration Studies said nationally 23 percent of babies were born to foreign-born mothers. The 2002 figures are the latest available.
Immigrant mothers accounted for only 15 percent of the births in Denver and nationally in 1990. The share of births to immigrant mothers has at least doubled since 1990 in the populous Front Range counties.
The center's study said Colorado was fifth in percentage of births to illegal immigrants.
Dr. Richard Jones, 58, interim chief of obstetrics for the Denver Health citywide system of clinics, said he took classes at night after work to hone his Spanish-speaking skills.
"It doesn't matter where you are from," Jones said. "We'll take care of you and your baby."
Denver Health does not track the nationality of birth mothers, but officials said the cost of serving the uninsured is growing. Last year it totaled $285 million last year, up from $100 million in 1991, spokeswoman Bobbi Barrow said.
Denver Public Schools spokesman Mark Stevens said officials are prepared for the increase in immigrant children.
"Our role is to take kids where they are when we get them and move them forward," Stevens said. "That is something we are very used to dealing with here. We have programs and services in place. We've been at this business for quite a while. The numbers may change a little bit. Our job is to find the most talented teachers available who enjoy and see the benefits of working with that population."

Yup I can believe it. Most of the foreigners in NYC are regular birthing machines! That is all you see. They walk around with 3, 4, or 5 kids in tow! And they get one bonus out of it - their kids are automatically American Citizens!
The only problem with this article is that there are foreign-born mothers who are here legally, as well as illegally. They don't separate the two groups.
America as we know it will cease to exist within our grandchildren's lifetimes.
I wonder what the percentage was in 1920? Pretty close I bet. Those kids and grandkids assimilated. We'll see how this generation does.

You know America is dying when someone thinks having 3 or 4 kids is alien behavior.
Yeppers, it hardly resembles what I grew up with. I'm leaving Texas (State of my birth) and moving to central Florida by the end of September. On 4th of July I saw nothing but Mexicans milling around with 5 kids! Most of them not legal, no hablo english.
Five kids does not make one a "birthing machine." Many of the best Freepers come from families MUCH larger than that (or are heading them!).
Full disclosure: Fifth born of six children. My mom had five children in under six years.
Last week there was an increase in NJ of 35%. Also, last week CA gave its statistics. Terrible! Need to pass that legislation which bans giving automatic citz'hip to children of illegals.

I agree, but it won't happen. It doesn't even have a political prayer, since it involves a Constitutional amendment.
The bottom line is this: American culture is going to be Mexicanized. We will be assimilated as a nation- the demographics are unmistakable. The best you can hope for is to find a town, preferably a small one, with a high cost of living and little demand for manual agricultural labor nearby. As America becomes Mexicanized, your town will become more and more prized as a living destination, and this will raise property values even more. Illegal immigrants won't be able to afford to live there, and your town will retain its American culture.
But America as a whole is fait accompli- it will be Mexicanized. Not to say that Mexican culture is the worst in the world - they tend to have strong Christian faith and family structures. Thank heavens it's not Islamic culture taking over. I just happen to have a soft spot for the dying American culture that is my own.
This has nothing to do with that being normal or not. It has to do with foreigners coming here and having alot of children so that they automatically become citizens which means that they themselves can stay in the country. There is a reason behind them having children here. I have talked to alot of foreign women and that is a BIG REASON why they have kids here. This helps them be able to stay in this country.

How come nobody cares about "zero population growth" anymore? It was/seemed important in the 1960's, and our women did what they could to make it happen.
Why does everyone want so many immigrants? Why is a billion people living here "better" than 200 million people? A lot of farms and forests will have to be cut down or concreted over to make room for all of those people, and we need lots more highways, and schools, and hospitals for all of the future congestion.
