Montgomery checking in. Lot of wind and rain, no significant damage, never lost power. I did lose 2 young pine trees, but they were ones that had had thier roots damaged during Ivan and we had tried to save them.

They had come back and were getting healthy, but thier shallow root systems combined with saturated ground from Cindy brought them down again. Don't know if we can save them a second time.

Talked to my brother in Ft. Walton Beach. He has an Oak tree laying across his brand new roof (Ivan damage just got repaired 2 months ago). He said they never lost power in Northern FWB. Took a ride, lots of signs blown down, some roof damage, lots of trees down. HWY 98 was breached on Okaloosa Island again, and as of last night they were not letting anyone on the island so he isn't sure what the waterfront looks like. he said FWB has a good amount of damage, but nothing like with Ivan.

Ouch--seems the power companies are making real improvements in keeping utilities relatively intact.

I have to wonder if this storm will prevent private development on the barrier islands now. It will be virtually impossible to obtain insurance.

THANK YOU for posting the info from your brother. We've been searching for info about Okaloosa Island.

Since Hwy 98 thru the island is the easiest way to Destin, there have to be major problems in that area for awhile to come.
