Many FReepers were in the path of Hurricane Dennis--please check in to let us know you are safe.
One death just outside of Atlanta. Wind and rain blew a huge oak tree onto a house. Sounds like a young father. His wife and two small children were in another part of the house. You can attribute this one directly to Dennis.
So terribly sad.
I remember the hurricane, but the date is fuzzy.

I finally got the message late last night, lol.
I thought I had broken the internet yesterday. FR is my home page and I didn't think of trying anything else.
I came through just fine, already have my shutters off...I do have broncitis and a slight fever this morning though.
Sounds like a plan to me. But, I'll reiterate: kitty may be the key to the magic formula. Gotta make sure she heads north too.
I'll be heading south in a few minutes. Looks like a blustery, but otherwise uneventful drive ahead of me.
Good luck on your drive. It's damp, a little windy, white puffy clouds in the sky but otherwise clear and sunny here.
Good morning, all. We were evidently in the 'sweet spot' here in Cherokee Co, AL (northeast AL just ESE of SamAdams76). You know, that little elongated triangle that seems to escape the worst of the rain bands as they come through. Though it's raining a bit now, there was actually a bit of blue sky peeking through earlier. They took our lake level down yesterday in anticipation of heavy rain. Though we didn't get much, northern GA is getting hammered w/ rain and we get all their run off so lake flooding is not out of the question.
All in all, I've been through worse thunderstorms!
Good news from NE AL.
The weather in ATL has been terrible since yesterday afternoon with tornado warnings at Hartsfield.
It may not have been Georges, but my wife and I most definitely got run out of Destin on 9/3/98 due to a Cat 1 hurricane. We got married 8/28/98, so I remember it well.
Power just came back on at 9:32 am. First thing I did was to go into my office to see if FR was back online. While I waited for my computer to boot, I noticed my fax machine had started to smoke. UH OH! I remembered the thread yesterday about 220v was run accidentally through a freepers house last year after IVAN, and I quickly turned everything off. I threw the fax machine outside in the rain. I needed a new one anyway.
Everything else is ok -- lots of limbs down around us here in the woods, but they did their job and served as a buffer. I salute them all;)
Oh yeah. Cat's are out huntin possum again.
Yep. That was it.
99 BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL!!!!!!
Great the the storm seems to have lost some punch at landfall. Have not read up this morning -
See y'all next time
That's the one. Thanks.
H.I., you back yet?
Hope everyone in the path made it through the storm ok, it could have been a lot worse. Overall, looks like some decent surge and a small area of big wind damage.
Max 1-Minute Sustained wind (Dennis - Landfall)
