Vicksburg! Nice area. If I recall that's where the USS Cairo is (an ironclad from the northern war of aggression or whatever it is the Civil War is being called this week) Congratulations!

When we were stationed in Norlin's we took a trip up through some of the Civil War sites in Mississippi. I remember we liked Vicksburg a lot...also the Mobile and that area.

Yes, I am quite fond of VB. It already feels like home. I know this will sound wierd, but it feels to me like I have returned home. RETURNED home.

Evesdropping here- I've heard that the Battlefield at nearbyRaymond has also been restored.

Vicksburg has the best Park Battle Guides (IMHO) outside of Gettysburg. Mine was a true Southern Lady who entertained me for two hours with stories & lore. Hope you take a break and hire one of the guides...you'll learn the origins of the 101st....where we got the term "spread eagle"....a story of a girl who passed as a soldier....
