If you're near the water and get hit head on with a Cat 4 or 5, you may be feeling the "literal" hand and breath of God.
How secure is your home?
You're concern is appreciated and believe me, I would not be staying if I wasn't 100% positve I could keep a roof over my head throughout the storm. My house is built far past ANY building standards and codes anywhere. Without going into all the details, I'll simply say that when is was being inspected by the building inspector, that he was completely blown away with all the extra strength precautions taken into cosideration during construction.
I have always lived in highly hurricane prone areas. Prior to living in Destin I lived on Hatteras Island, N.C.
Using every experience to learn what it takes to build a home as strong as possible. The key was to inspect the damage done to homes hit by the storm and learn what survived and what didn't. All this helped in building the best possible, most secure home, to ride these storms out in.
I'll never deny that these storms are not dangerous, they are if you're not prepared. I most definately am.
I evacuated Panama City Beach late this morning. It was a mandatory evacuation. Since my house is on the beach, I am really curious as to what I'll see when I return. I boarded up all the windows save one and naturally, that is the one I'm fretting over. I've got five bee hives I hope make it through the storm. If not, my bees may be blown into Alabama.
