UK reviews JSF variant choice

As the early 2006 Main Gate decision on the UK's Future Carrier (CVF) programme nears, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has acknowledged that it is conducting parallel work to determine whether the short take-off vertical landing (STOVL) variant of the Lockheed Martin Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) remains best equipped to meet its Joint Combat Aircraft (JCA) requirement.

What other options do they have now that they have prematurely retired the Sea Harrier FA2 in favor of the RAF's Harrier GR7? The limey baby flattops lack air cover. They will need a SToVL aircraft until the CVFs are built(assuming the Blair gov't doesn't give them the ax).

The only other platform would be UK's Harrier or Russian Free Style. I think those would never be the choice.
