To argue with a liberal, he'd do better by following an advice of one Nicholas Gogol: "By Lord, Ivan Ivanovich, one ought to have eaten a lot of beans before talking to you!" Garlic works well, too.

I noticed that liberals love to flaunt their "education" and imply that I'm a totally uneducated hack when they're losing the argument on merit.

They don't hesitate to resort to personal attacks, for sure.

Rush is going to cause this young woman to be out of a job. After the initial shock wears off, the office grapevine will be in full hum, attributing all manner of neanderthal thoughts and motivations. If she's not set up for a fall and fired outright, she'll be frozen out and ridiculed until she leaves. University politics is unbelievably bitter and destructive. If she's so unhappy, and I probably would be in the same position, she needs to have her ducks in a row, with a job outside of academia, before she finally rips into them, that's all I've got to say.

I often find that laughing at people when they are being true to their beliefs(whatever they may be) IS in fact being confrontational. But to each their own I guess.

Humor is precisely the attitude I take when I get the liberal playbook. Works like a charm.

THAT'S exactly what I do.

I'm an Irish girl, living in Ireland...and when a political argument starts up in the pub (as it invariably does)...I laugh, and look incredulous at my opponent.

COMPLETELY unnerves them. I win! Hands down. Every time. They end up changing the subject out of frustration. And then, just before we go home for the night, I ask them...'What was that you were saying earlier on? Gave me such a laugh. I love to go home to bed on a chuckle'!

:-)

I really like the fact Rush has nailed the progressive label as a disguise.

I would be ENORMOUSLY amused if he called himself America's True Progressive just to tweak the left.

After all he is America's Anchorman.

This is just great. I only got to listen to Rush for a few minutes today, and, wouldn't you know it, it was during this call.

Next time you post a transcript from Rush's show, could you make it something I haven't heard before? ;)

Hi everyone-
I wish I had seen all these posts earlier because I would have replied much sooner. I'm Meredith in Poughkeepsie. I'm not really FROM there but that's where I was at the time I was calling...from the drive-thru at Wendy's. You know, if you stuff your face with French Fries while waiting for Rush to say your name, you can almost forget that millions of people are listening to you. Almost.

So I'll comment briefly on some things I read on here to clear things up. I have an office job at the college library, but I also assist with course reserve items. These are the readings/movies that professors assign for particular courses. I understand that in the spirit of well-rounded-thought, anti-Bush articles may be appropriate for a Poli Sci class called "American Politics." However, I find it hard to justify articles about Homosexuality and Gender Issues for and English 101-type class.

I knew the faculty would be very left-leaning when I started working there. I knew the students would be as well. This didn't bother me because I was once an undergrad (just 2 years ago) in a philosophy program where I was the ONLY conservative (and the only girl). I was used to an environment where I could say what I think- I'm not particularly shy when it comes to voicing opinion. After all, if another student thought I was an idiot (and I know some did), WHO CARES??? I didn't have the highest opinion of their thought processes either. I was never afraid of negative consequences for saying what I think.

Alas, my attitude has changed because my environment changed. I do fear consequences where I work. You see, this college is in its own world. Like most private liberal arts colleges, the students and people who lecture here are VERY proud of themselves. BUT, this college has managed to create a campus culture that is so out of touch with the rest of the country that even the employees cannot imagine an intelligent person having ideas other than the ones that are most voiced on campus. Naturally, since I work there, my boss/coworkers assume I go to work with the same unquenched hatred for George Bush that plagues them. (Some would faint if they knew I had VIP seats at the Inaugural address in January and danced at 2 Inaugural Balls) The "Bush is a liar" comments are normal at the library. There are fliers on the walls about how bad the Patriot Act is for library confidentiality. The ho-humming about failing in Iraq is commonplace. Why so common? Because nobody considers that there could be differences of opinion in the room. The thought of offending anyone has never crossed their minds.

And so, I have an inkling that if people at work knew of my conservative tendencies, (and weakness for Inaugural festivities for Republicans) I would be thought of as less intelligent. And, less competent. You know that feeling when someone gets your name wrong from the moment they meet you and they keep calling you that name without giving you much of a chance to correct them? And then it just keeps going on and on until you don't know if you should correct them because you're not sure how they'll take it?......that's a little bit like how I feel.

I've thought about Rush's advice for me and I honestly don't know if it's the best. I don't really want to talk about politics at work. That's not why I'm at work. I just don't want to hear constant unchecked hogwash either.

-Meredith
