Air Supply Performing in Cuba By VANESSA ARRINGTON Associated Press Writer

HAVANA -- Air Supply are performing for two nights in Cuba, adding the communist country to a list of exotic venues including North Vietnam, Lebanon and mainland China.

Vocalist Russell Hitchcock said the rock group, which rose to popularity in the 1980s with the song "All Out of Love," produces music that is able to transcend language.

"We're always very excited to take our music to places we've never been before," he said at a news conference Thursday.

Songwriter Graham Russell's "lyrics and melodies seem to touch people's hearts very deeply, very quickly," Hitchcock said.

In May, Audioslave played an outdoor concert in Havana. Rick Wakeman of Yes fame performed in the capital in April.

Cuba invited Air Supply to the island, indicating a new pattern of encouraging rock and pop music in a country where rockers were once chastised for having long hair.

A large crowd attended the Thursday night show in an open-air venue next to the Malecon, the city's famed seawall. A second performance was scheduled Friday at the Karl Marx theater.

Ahead of Air Supply's arrival, Cuba's Juventud Rebelde newspaper said group members "became idols for thousands of Cubans in the '80s, who `sang' their songs despite barely speaking English."

"But we would have never imagined that one day they would come here," the newspaper said. "And here they are!"

Among Air Supply's most beloved songs on the island are "Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You)," "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" and "Every Woman in the World."

"It's obvious that we have a lot of fans here that span more than one generation," Hitchcock said.

More proof that Cuba is a Communist hellhole. I expect a tsunami of Cuban refugees on Florida's shores to coincide with Air Supply's concert appearances. And where is Amnesty International!!!?

It could be worse. Last month I stayed at the Las Vegas Hilton and was subjected from every corner, in the elevator, on the phone - EVERYWHERE - with the sounds of and images of Barry Manilow. Aaaaaggghhh!!!! I was able to hide out in the Star Trek Experience for a while to get away from it. Luckily it was only one night or I'd be in therapy right now.

I'm all out of work.
Nobody will book me.
I can't feed my kids.
Or pay alimony.

THIS is how we will finally bring down the Communist regime. No dictator is brutal enough to withstand Air Supply.

Hmmm...I would have assumed they would play Gitmo.

More torturous than Aguilera.

Maybe they can make a stop at Guantanamo, too.

Calling Sen. Durbin!

Dick Durbin would have referred to them as the "Gestapo of Pop."

Dear President Bush

You are one evil sadistic bastard! You win! We surrender! We will do anything you want! Just make them stop singing!

Begging you,

I seriously doubt they'll be performing tonight, unless they want to get blown into the ocean.

Hmmmmmm......Air Supply. From the archives ---

MIDI - ALL OUT OF LOVE

It’s twenty one weeks and the baby is ill
But what is the doctor to do?
He’s there in the womb and there isn’t much hope
A miracle soon comes true
Mom says “Operate…because Samuel needs help”
The whole thing is very well planned
The doctor’s surprised when his finger is grabbed
“My God, it is Samuel’s hand…tiny hand

They’re not tissue mass…they are not a choice, now
Come join if you will…by raising your voice now
They’re not tissue mass…my God, they are babies
Abortion is wrong…it’s got to be stopped somehow

For too many years many babies like him
Were ripped from their safe mother’s womb
Purveyors of death taking innocent life
Hell waits for those in that room

They’re selfish and cruel…they are evil indeed
How many more babies must die?
We can’t turn our heads…we all have to stand up
We hear the angels cry…angels cry

They’re not tissue mass…they are not a choice, now
Come join if you will…by raising your voice now
They’re not tissue mass…my God, they are babies
Abortion is wrong…it’s got to be stopped somehow

Oh, how many more must die…can't you hear angels cry?

They’re not tissue mass…they are not a choice, now
Come join if you will…by raising your voice now
They’re not tissue mass…my God, they are babies
