I do not care about hispanic, I want to know qualifications.

I want to know about the issues!

Where are they on the 2nd? (individual right or collective)
Where are they on personal real property? (ie public for private taking)
Where are they on DOMA?
Where are they on abortion?
States Rights?

Answer those questions first then I will worry about where they mother and father came from.

Many conservative activists back federal appeals Judge Emilio Garza, while liberals and moderates see U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales as a less extreme option.

It just don't get much more biased that this one, folks. Notice how Garza is backed by "conservative activists" (who also, undoubtably, eat live kittens and pour boiling oil from the rooves of thei mansions onto black kids), while Gonzales is backed by "moderates."

And the Dinosaur Press just don't understand why no one is listening anymore...

And all of a sudden this fella, who is a good public servant and a really fine person, is under fire," he said of Gonzales. "And so do I like it? No, I don't like it. At all."

REPLY:

Sorry President Bush but I disagree with you.

I'm glad your sticking up for your friend but thats what friends do.

I think Gonzales would when and if appointed do the same thing as David Souter or Darth Vader Ginsbergmeister.

Thumb their noses at conservative American traditions.

No, I do not support Gonzalez at all.

Why base a choice just because you want to have diversity on the court.

What happened to the best person for the job requirement.

The best man/woman for the job, and not the polls, should be chosen. But affirmative action and race-based politics have mucked things up so much, how are we to know if Emilio Garza is chosen because he's the best or for his color? My answer: if Emilio Garza is chosen, we can hold out some glimmer of hope that he was best for the job. if Alberto Gonzalez is chosen, it's nothing more than pandering to who they think their hispanic voters are.

Justice Cardozo's ancestry was Portuguese, not Spanish. Be highly surprised if he ever identified himself as 'Hispanic'.

Given Motor Voter, anchor babies used for full family welfare, free medical and various other forms of 'Hispandering' the leaders of both parties are the masters of groveling for votes regardless if either is chosen.....in fact being on their knees is probably a very comfortable position for most of these limp wristed, feminized male politicians.

The most important thing is that they would be excellent, conservative jurists and have no skeletons in their closets. Right now about 5-10 names are being thrown around that easily fit that requirement.

So, now Bush can consider political factors. To pretend that a candidate’s demeanor, personal story, gender, communication style, race, appearance, etc., have nothing to do with a partisan political process is naïve at best. Any conservative nominee will automatically be declared a racist, sexist pig. If that candidate happens to be a minority or woman, that helps defang these charges, even in a hostile liberal media. Therefore, it makes the candidate easier to confirm, which is the point here.

It also makes the GOP generally appear more open to minorities than some think, since the media always alleges we are sexists, racists, etc. This helps more Republicans get elected in swing districts, which results in even more conservative judges. Like you, I wish such superficial characteristics didn’t matter, but in the real world they do. The Dems know this and we better know it to if we want to win.

Lastly, I don’t know Garza’s & Estrada’s views on illegal immigration, but most Hispanics I know are more against it than most non-Hispanics I know. This is just anecdotal, but it is my experience, especially with conservative Hispanics.

Judge Roy Moore is my kinda of American. He stands as our Founding Fathers stood. He will not back down....OMG what a refreshing American he is.

The scripture that comes to mind in regard to him is: Job 40:7a Gird up thy loins now like a man. ;o)

The Barnacle sees this in terms of race, which is to be expected.

It's sad to see how many Republicans agree with them, though.

Yes. Although It might be that he has plans for Gov. then Pres. ya neva know. That being the case, some folks out there might prefer to keep him on the Supreme Court instead of the White House.

Oh good Lord! If either of those gets the nomination, we might as well get rid of the INS and throw the border gates WIDE OPEN!!!

This is pathetic.

Gonzales is anti-Second Ammendment. He espouses the "collective right" lie. He also wanted to make the Clinton Ugly Gun Ban permanent.

That alone should utterly disqualify Gonzales.

So you think President Bush would be a panderer if he selects Gonzales as one of his nominees?...

As President, he'd be the first one since Coolidge to totally uphold the organic constitution of the USA. He'd kick ass and take names.

Bush would look like an extreme light weight compared to Judge Roy Moore along with Reagan.

I could give a damn how they appear. I give a damn about what they will do to my "Country". If the man is purple and stands for law and the Constitution as it was written I am fine with that. I do however have misgivings at the present time with this admin. policies of not enforcing immigration law and opening up our borders without the authority of the American voter. In short like most Americans in the West right now I am running scared. You in the East hang on. There are more than enough illegal Mexicans to go around. You are getting the first edge about now. Attitudes here are already changing. I have been watching for some time now.
