A time for decisions...
George Santayana said those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it. Earlier today, terrorists from an unknown faction exploded four bombs in London, three in the underground and one on a bus. If history has shown us anything, it has shown us that people who enjoy the freedoms available in a democratic society, and in particular the British and American people, never surrender to the threat of terrorism.
In World War II, Hitler was certain that his bombing campaign of terror carried out against the people of Britain, and especially of London, would bring the British people to their knees. I believe his statement was In three weeks, Britain will have her neck wrung like a chicken. Sir Winston Churchill responded in an address to the joint houses of Congress, Some chicken! Some Neck! It is almost incomprehensible that anyone could possibly believe that such a heinous act would have any result other than to steel the spine and stiffen the resolve of the British People, and the free people throughout the world. The blame for the fact that terrorists dont yet comprehend this can be laid directly at the feet of the fear-mongers and naysayers in Britain and our own country who have opposed the actions of our respective governments out of fear and hatred. Most people who are free intuitively understand exactly what they stand to lose by succumbing to the fear that this kind of terror campaign is intended to generate. The unfortunate reaction of the Spanish people to the attacks in Spain which occurred just prior to their national elections served only to encourage these kinds of attacks. It is only by fighting back, by refusing to yield to the temptations of fear that these enemies of freedom can be stopped.
In listening to C-Span this morning, I was astounded by the number of callers who suggested appeasement as the solution to this terrorist problem. The number of callers who believe that we in the West are responsible for these criminal acts of war against us are the promoters, either consciously or unconsciously, of these attacks. It is they toward whom the terrorist have directed their attacks. Terrorists know that if these fearful, spineless, faithless, people can gain ascendancy in our government, half of their battle will be won. The last caller I listened to before I turned my television off in disgust wanted to know what these terrorists wanted. He stated, I really want these terrorists to let us know what they want, if they are against democracy, then tell us why. This is an astounding reaction to an act of terror. It is this if we could only understand them attitude, exemplified in our country by the Left who are so anxious to pull out of Iraq and surrender to the terrorists, that is the greatest threat to our nation and our war on terror. Again I refer you to George Santayanas statement.
Our history is replete with misguided, goodwill, attempts to appease the ire of an aggressor. Britains once much revered Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, made a complete ass of himself in his negotiations with Adolph Hitler. His final ignominy occurred on the steps at #10 Downing Street with his much celebrated declaration that he had returned from his September, 1938 meeting with Herr Hitler in Munich secure in the knowledge that he had achieved a peace for our times. Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia less than six months later. Chamberlain's efforts failed because he negotiated from a position of appeasement rather than from one of strength. The fault in this strategy lies in the absurd assumption that through understanding or generosity there is something you can give the terrorist that will in someway abate his hatred and cause him to rationally reexamine his actions and cease his hostility. People, there is no rationality in hatred. It is an emotion and is not subject to appeals of logic or reason. The lust for power, the desire for conquest is by definition an irrational concept. This Islamo-Terrorist hatred of the west will only be appeased by the complete conquest of our societies by their particular perverted brand of Islam. No other result will satisfy them. It is their stated goal. They believe and state that this jihad will only end with the total destruction of the west, or its conversion to Islam.
The terrorist appeasers, though sometimes motivated by goodwill, are known during war time by another name, a not so pleasant name, collaborators. Congress members such as John Conyers, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Lee, Sheila Jackson Lee, Jim McDermott, Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin, Orca Kennedy, John Kerry, and the others calling for our early withdrawal from Iraq or impeachment of President Bush, are collaborating with our enemies. Loyal citizens like Michael Moore, George Soros, Al Franken, Barbara Streisand, Susan Sarandon and her puppy dog Tim Robbins, and their ilk who seek to obstruct our government and our military from achieving victory in Iraq and who encourage ending the war in Iraq are doing the work of our enemies. MSM reporters and pundits of the Left who misreport and misrepresent the actions occurring in Iraq, and fail to report all of the good that our troops in Iraq are accomplishing while engaged in this fight for freedom, are aiding and giving comfort to our enemies. All of these despicable actions are carried out by contemptible and uncaring people who hate America and that for which she stands. They deserve the ire of the American public. They are the fifth columnists within our nation who need to be rooted out and exposed for the evil they represent. I seriously question any professed good intent in these individuals whom I believe are self-seeking, self-aggrandizing publicity seekers, and would add that good intentions in and of themselves would in any event provide them no cover.
People are known by their actions, and the actions of these collaborators are despicable. Those who seek to undermine our war efforts out of pique at having lost an election or failed in someway to achieve their political goals, or who seek to gain politically from their efforts to encumber an administration at war are the most despicable people of all. They are betraying their fellow citizens and human beings in hopes of gaining political power. In this they are no different from our external enemies. Even in a nation such as America, which places a value greater than life on its liberties, freedom of speech, freedom of the press and religion, there unfortunately comes a time when dissent must cease and the enemy must hear the voice of unanimity coming from our capitol. People must make a choice as to whether they are Americans or not. They must choose whether they are loyal to our nation and its underlying principles or are determined to work against our government and our greater good in sympathy with our enemies. In this there can be no middle ground. President Bush said it exactly right on 9/20/2001 when in an address to a joint session of Congress, he declared: Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. To this, I would add every citizen in America now has that same decision to make.
The desire of terrorists is clear. It is to turn people in free countries against each other, and so undermine their ability to counter-attack against the terrorists true objective, to destabilize and so cause the collapse of our government and our society. They have succeeded to some extent; in no small measure due to the actions of our own hate-filled self-obsessed anti-American forces in politics and the press. Those who speak against our President and our foreign policy as regards this war are traitors. This is a nation which revels in dissent, and in all issues respecting the economy, the courts, and other areas of our governments business, dissent must be allowed and celebrated. Protest loudly against the Presidents stated policy of a marriage amendment, or his court nominations; question his Social Security proposal and his border initiatives. Those are all fare game and deserving of your scrutiny, but in this time of war, when American lives are at stake everyday, consider well your every word and how it will be received, not by our allies, but by our enemies.
Every word of criticism, every attack on our policy, strikes another blow for the enemies of freedom. Each posting on dailyKos, BoomanTribune, and Democrat Underground that voices opposition to the war is a voice of support for the terrorists. Each protest will be played over and over again by Al Jazeera for the joy of our enemies. And each criticism that reaches the ears of a GI in the combat zone, hacks away a little of his morale and endangers his life and the lives of his fellows. As we are not in a declared war, these hateful voices will get away with their anti-American tirades without punishment, but each will betray itself for the self-absorbed evil it is. They will betray the lie on their lips if, as they snipe and attack the President and our policies, they protest that they love this nation and its Constitution or that they support the troops.
A true love of our nation requires at times a sacrifice. For some like our men in the military and their families, and on rare occasions civilians as well, this may include the ultimate sacrifice, for others it may simply mean the sacrifice of their political agenda or their wishes until the conflict is over. If America can ask its young men to fight and die in a war for the freedom of all citizens, then it certainly has the right to ask fatuous, self-absorbed subversive critics to keep their traps shut and their opinions to themselves. If, as some believe, the President and/or any of his cabinet are guilty of some of the crimes that have been alleged, there will come a time of reckoning, but now, in this war, is not that time.
War and as we again have been reminded today, make no mistake this is war, may indeed make for strange bedfellows, but that doesnt necessarily mean they will be happy bedfellows. To my friends on the left I say, leave off your anti-war campaign until this unhappy time is past; you have plenty of other grist for your sniping mill. To my enemies on the left I simply say, GET STUFFED! Appeasement has never and will never assuage the anger and hatred of these terrorists. Fortunately, terror has never and will never deter citizens of a free society from their unwavering determination to battle against terrorism and despotism.
Greater love hath no man than that he lay down his life for his fellow man.
-John 15:13
Terrorist, appeasers and democrats will never learn. If up to them we will all be on prayer rugs facing the east.
Thank you.
