How is this a religion again? I missed that part.

Oh... it's a tax thing - I get it.

Nevermind

Scammintology is a cult and organized criminal syndicate that engages in brainwashing, theft by con, extortion, and a host of other crimes. If the US Dept of Injustice had any coglioni they'd use the RICO statutes for what they were meant for for once, and arrest their leaders, sieze their assets, and shut them down once and for all. They won't be passing out the Koolaid any time soon because there's too much money in the cult business.

Did you know Cruise used to be extremely religious and aspired to be a catholic priest until Scientology got him.

All people are said to have a "thetan," something like a soul in other religious traditions.

Minor point, a thetan isn't something you have, it's something you are.

I thought all it involved was Tom Cruise jumping on a couch.

No one is going to defend Scientology?!? No one?!?
Ok, so I'm the Devil's advocate.

1)Why is Scientology a scam and Christianity is not?
2)Why are Scientology beliefs (Xenu et al) any more wacky than water-to-wine parlor tricks?
3)There are also Catholic Hollywood celebrities. Shouldn't they be mocked for their religion as well?
4)Isn't the whole Scientology organization set up to work as an intelligence gathering apparatus (PC folders as recorded confessionals, emeter as lie detector, training the Scientologist to lie convincingly)?
5)What drugs were found in LRH's system by his coroner?

I seem to have been unable to stay on track. My sincere apologies.

Here's a link to another recent article and thread about Scientology, for those who want more to chew on:

Scientology's wild claims no stranger than those of major religions

A: It's an optical illusion. In truth, no more than a half-dozen or so celebrities have been publicly associated with Scientology. In addition to Cruise, Travolta and Alley, you have Kelly Preston (Travolta's wife), Isaac Hayes, Chick Corea, Greta Van Susteren.

Vanilla Ice too. Or maybe he's not considered a celebrity.

The article is really garbage. Scientology is a great danger to human beings within and outside of it. I am one who believes its standing military divisions and intelligence gathering sectors are a threat to the national security of the United States.

Scientology is far worse than Sun Myung Moon or any of the others in my estimation. It is Christianity's greatest organized public enemy in the United States

It actually sounds like a combination of psychology, objectivism a la Ayn Rand, various behavior modification techniques, with some mumbo-jumbo thrown in.

Q: Why are so many celebrities Scientologists?

A: It's an optical illusion. In truth, no more than a half-dozen or so celebrities have been publicly associated with Scientology. In addition to Cruise, Travolta and Alley, you have Kelly Preston (Travolta's wife), Isaac Hayes, Chick Corea, Greta Van Susteren.

False statement. Google 'famous scientologists' and you'll come up with dozens. Therefore, the article can be dismmissed as not reliable.

It is a made up science fiction fantasy by L. Ron Hubbard who sold it as a religion, knowing there are gullible, stupid people who would buy it in a heartbeat.

Everything you could possibly want to know about L.Ron Hubbard and Scientology is in this book. Highly recommended -- use Bookfinder to track down a used copy.

The first book I ever read about Scientology was The Ultimate Evil
By: Maury Terry. It was a book about "The Son of Sam" , but told alot about Scientology being a front for satanism. Very interesting book, I recommend.
