Can you imagine flying over Baghdad or Ramadi with one of these and just watching houses and mosques blow up?

Be even better if you could set em off while the bad guys are placing an IED or constructing a car bomb. If this works it will be absolutely great for the Coalition troops.

Ever since September 11, 2001, the threat of domestic terrorism has influenced the way we live. The way we do business is different; the way we travel is different. Even our government structure has changed. We’re all looking for new ways to keep each other safe.

Ionatron’s LIPC directed-energy weapons technology is useful in both civic and commercial applications. Any place people gather - to work, to shop, to travel - is a potential target or weak spot, and so are our nation’s borders and entry points.

Government anti-terror forces, police departments, and private security teams can install LIPC weapons on vehicles, boats, and aircraft to protect federal and municipal buildings, office towers, shipping containers, energy and chemical plants, banks, and transportation centers from attacks by land, sea, or air. Riot control, smuggler apprehension, and border security could all become more effective with LIPC technology.

Any idea on the distance this works at?

From what I understand, it's being deployed as a mobile unit precisely because the range isn't high enough to have it mounted to a Humvee or other troop carrier. Apparetnly, that's the next obstacle they're trying to overcome.

Thanks for that link. That thing is awesome, be great for convoys. They would have to keep it constantly moving in Baghdad, especially on airport road, but it would save lives.

and thanks to FoxNews (and even USAToday, I guess) for trying to get this some exposure...we are pretty well informed and even WE don't see this good news and the brilliant and courageous men working on this problem...

That is cool stuff. Plasma-prime the atmosphere with a laser, then shoot the lightning down the plasma "wire".

Ionizing radiation, perhaps?

I believe that the DOD requested this JIN device from IOTN based on their LIPC technology.

LIPC is Laser Induced Plasma Channel tech.

What it does is target something with a beam of light and then shoot lightning at the target.

Like in war or the worlds... just not as powerful.

From what I just read this LIPC can go through concrete, stop cars and melt the rubber off the wheels.

The IED will save tons of lives overseas. But I would imagine that LIPC will be OUR defense.

Wonder if it can sniff out suicide bombers and blow them up when no one is around.
