Muslim leaders join condemnation

Muslim leaders have condemned the attacks on London and said they fear their communities could now fall prey to vigilante attacks.

Muslim Association of Britain president Ahmed Sheikh said the attacks would make the Muslim community less safe.

He said women in headscarves might be in particular danger and warned all Muslims to be especially vigilant.

Muslim News editor Ahmed Versi noted one of London's biggest Muslim areas, around Aldgate East, had been targeted.

Mr Sheikh said the unique good relationship Muslims had with the government and society was threatened.

"The person who did this was targeting along with wider British society the Muslim community, ruining the good relationship we have."

"Muslims have to be vigilant now, especially the mosques, and I hope the police will increase security" Ahmed Versi Muslim News

He said the police should consider extra protection for mosques and Islamic schools and said Muslims, particularly women in headscarves, should be vigilant and avoid unnecessary journeys.

"It is scary. A tiny element of the community will make use of this. It is a blow to us, to all of us. It is a moment of sadness and we send our condolences to the families of those who have been killed or injured."

Mr Versi said he had already received one threatening e-mail about the blasts.

"There might be some increase in attacks on the Muslim community especially visible aspects of Islam like mosques, community centres and women with headscarves.

"Recently there have been a lot of attacks on Muslim women on buses in London, it has increased during the last few months."

But he said the immediate Muslim revulsion at the attacks could help calm the situation.

"I don't think there'll be as high a number of attacks as after 11 September because Muslims have come out very strongly, especially Muslim leaders, condemning the attacks.

"I'm sure many Muslims will have been injured as well... one of the bombs - at Aldgate - was near to the east London mosque, it's a very heavy Muslim area.

"Muslims have to be vigilant now, especially the mosques, and I hope the police will increase security on mosques and Islamic centres."

Sorry but this is not a matter of having it both ways...the Muslim community always issues a tepid condemnation of the act and then launches into their fears of reprisals...for once I would love to see some righteous anger at their barbarous coreligionists and a passionate defense of their adopted western homeland...been waiting quite a while.

see, that's my whole issue. They're SO concerned about vigilante attacks against THEM in retaliation for what's happened that they're not even speaking out loudly enough against what HAS happened!

And to think there are people even on THIS site that insist that the majority of these people are "peaceful". BS, I say.

I understand you're enthusiasm, but most of us have seen all that before.
An excerpt/link would suffice to steer those who mightn't have, and is especially appropriate on a breaking news thread.

I share your revulsion for the 'beasts', btw.

How typical - a cursory condemnation followed by fear for their own racist, intolerant, bigoted hides. Screw em.

I think we should put out a warning. One more of these mass slaughters and we will drop the big one on Mecca.

I'll be a Muslim Apologist, I don't care. These people did the RIGHT THING in condeming the bombings up front and unambiguously. I'll give them credit for that. I do wish they hadn't expressed their other concerns along with this however, it does sort of make it look like a "but what about meeeeee" whine at the end. Then again, I don't trust the media at all to give us an accurate picture of what was said or how..

Stop all the politically correct BS and start profiling these people. They and their religion of peace can all go get their 72 virgins ASAP. I am fed up with all the molly coddling of these people.

I don't believe them. They're just playing the PR game.

I agree. Just playing to the White Liberal Guilt crowd instead a calling on Muslims to purge the terrorists from their midsts and pledging full cooperation with authorities in tracking down the murderers.

I'm beyond tired of Muslims, all I have left for them is contempt and anger.

I'll pay attention to them when they turn in the members of their religion AND community to the local authorities, and help us police, track, jail, and kill any of the little sh#theads running around blowing up people. Until that happens, it's all talk, all posturing, and most likely lies.

If they're so worried about vigilante justice, move back to your home country and help wipe out the murderers - and realize it's because of THEIR bretheren that's making the world unsafe for them as well. This is not a vacuum where attacks on Muslims will be random, racist (which is implied, as usual, big bad Westerners are attacking innocent Muslims again) attacks on innocent Muslims - they will be direct REACTIONS to THEIR community and religion.

"I hope the police will increase security"

The best way to increase security is to expel Moslems, tear down the mosques, and ban the Koran.

If muslims cannot—or will not—control their own radical elements, others will do it. One way or the other, it will be done.

My sentiments exactly. I view this as a Muslim problem being caused by Muslim radicals and I see not a finger being lifted by anyone in the Muslim community to stop this BS. Since this is the case, perhaps it is time for ALL Muslims to feel the wrath of the infidels?

Are we, the citizens of the civilized world, supposed to just get "used" to this nonsense as a part of every day life like they are in (pick any Muslim city)?

Are they dancing in the Arab street today like they did on 9/11? Probably so.....

If Muslims anywhere in any numbers had been acting like normal citizens, keeping their eyes open, reporting potential local terrorists to the police, etc.instead of covering up for them and hiding them, I might be sympathetic.

I will ask the Mod to adjust length just for you bunch of pu$$ies.

That's right, we're all pussies and complainers, whereas every keystroke from your finger is a precious diamond of insight.

You should put this on EVERY thread thread today, insteading of posting it as a separate article and bumping it yourself whenever you feel events warrant.

Heck, forget what I said---you should post it on every PAGE of every thread today, just so people can't avoid it. It's THAT important and original.

""Returning" is a sure death wish! Those who have
returned to Iraq/Afghanistan are viewed as traitors
who fled to enemy territory."

You're probably correct. But perhaps these idiots should recognize that, and recognize it's part of a pattern - their peaceful religion is anything BUT.
