Tony Blair has said terrorists will not succeed in destroying "our values and our way of life" after blasts hit London's transport network.
The prime minister said it was reasonably clear the blasts were a terrorist attack designed to coincide with the G8 summit in Gleneagles.
He said he was flying back to London to hear reports from police and emergency services face-to-face.
But the G8 summit would continue in his absence, he said in a TV address.
London is one of the most delightful cities I've ever visited. England is one of the most beautiful countries I've ever visited. The British People are friendly, polite to a fault, and just a pleasure to be with.
We've been talking about a return trip, but I think we'll take a serious look at going back sooner rather than later.

Glad to see a post from you - I was going to look for you online as soon as I got into the office to make sure you're okay. I haven't even started to read the thread yet, but I've been listening to news radio since the alarm went off at 5 Eastern. Is the time difference 5 hours or 6?

I have enjoyed your posts and your comments on FR for a long time. Thank you for all you did before today, all you do today, and all you will do in the future. We all share your grief and anger. And we will stand by your side, as you and your country have faithfully stood by ours. While I grieve for the cost of fighting this good fight, I am very glad to have friends and allies like you. The Islamists made a big mistake and miscalculation on 9/11...they awakened a sleeping giant to their threat. They just compounded their error by attacking the single most resolute population on the planet. I am sorry you suffered this blow, but I am glad that we are on the same side as you. The Brits have demonstrated time and again the courage of their convictions. The Islamists will rue this day.
