Thursday, July 07, 2005

LONDON  — An explosion on a subway line — apparently caused by a power surge — injured several people in London's financial district Thursday morning, British Transport Police () said.

Metronet, a company that maintains the subway infrastructure, said the explosion was caused by a power surge.

London Underground () reported a second incident at another subway station in northeast London, but details weren't immediately available.

London Ambulance Service () said several vehicles had been dispatched to the area near Liverpool Street station, and police reported that several people were injured.

Several subway stations were closed following the incident.
