Very likely ... God knows, the place is reeking with these pouting bureaucrats who drank the KoolAid. I think Condi will certainly do what Powell didn't...they'll walk the line or they're out. But, then again, we don't really know how much parsing Novak was doing when he described the individual. I still don't see Cooper or Miller risking all for Bush insider... who knows, Ms Plame herself could be a target. She was the puppetmaster.

I was channel hoping and landed on CNN when I saw former Pentagon spokeswoman Torie Clark talking. She was debating "The Forehead" Begala on different topics.

When the topic turned to Fred Thompson the hostess asked if the naming of Thompson sent a signal. Clark refuted that theory and basically said he is a great guy with a great image who can help any nominee along.

Begala seemed to think that the signal being sent is that Thompson is in place to console the moderate Republicans. Making Thompson the face of the process means a strict conservative will be nominated.

I then turned the channel off of CNN.

Well, HC is on record for knowing things she shouldn't.

From the 911 Commission:

Clinton:

"The focus on the pictures being released is, with all due respect, missing the point. The report was well known, and apparently discussed on numerous occasions."

Rumsfeld:

"You say the report was well known. I don't know how you know that. All I know is when it made the public, when somebody took a secret document out of prosecutorial channels and released it to the press, I do not believe it was yet anywhere in the Pentagon. Certainly, I had not been given it or seen it."

Wilson acknowledged the forgeries well before they were in the hands of the CIA (he said he misspoke about that, IIRC).

That sounds right to me. It's evident the investigation has gone beyond just WHO the leaker is. Didn't someone say on FNC that there was perjury involved...that someone testified to something that wasn't true?

Thompson has very strong conservative numbers with the ACU...a life time # of 86%

I remember you saying the thing about Deliverance and the stuck pig!!

LOL

You did tell us so and I'll vouch for you.

Your parsing out what's been said is right on the money, as well. Good job---I hadn't caught some of that "nuance".

"Harken back to the Rockerfeller memo.....perhaps; or I could just have my super conspiratorial hat on today. Whatever, I'm still looking forward to the final word from Novak."

Footnoted in the Senate Intel report in 2004 that an investigation into the source of the forgeries was proceeding.

That love letter in the New York Times yesterday did make a point of saying Wilson "misspoke" when he tied the forgeries to his trip and his eventual "Bush lied" accusation.

But a reading of articles from about May 2003 onward (when Wilson was giving the story out anonymously) have him deliberately making the forgeries a centerpiece of his "proof".

From the 911 Commission

That isn't from the 9/11 Commission

That happened with the Abu Prison, Senate Arms Committee hearing

I actually don't think we will ever know the real source(s) because of the secret GJ and the fact that a crime was probably not committed or at least is subjective to what the criminal act would be. +++++

Okay.

My turn here.

Because I've been reading extensively on this case and even did a post on Blogcritics on it. Haven't put it up yet on my Blog but I'll summarize.

Here's the timeline.

1/1/2001 2001-office of special plans set up-

....THIS was one of the biggest surprises of my research. IT's important because goes to show resentment at the CIA. Also the reason Joe went on that damn trip to begin with. Seems Rumsfeld, very shortly after the 2000 election you should note, formed an "office of special plans". Seems he didn't trust the CIA one bit so he hand chose 18 people from various and sunder, to investigate Saddam's weapons of mass destruction. The CIA, in retaliation and with the hapless Tenet at the helm, retaliated by doing research on the WMD themselves. THEIR conclusions were very different from Rumsfeld's hand picked team.

As an aside, Rumsfeld felt the CIA and State were filthy with moles. Which they were (are).

2/12/2002 plame recommends husband for trip

2/19/2002 wilson gives report of his trip to CIA

10/16/2002 bogus documents on sale of yellowcake uranium turned over to CIA

5/1/2003 Wilson Meets with senate dem conference

this is a very important note as well. Because it was after this meeting, a Senate Democratic conference on policy, that Wilson began his grand book scheme. With the help of a few SENATE DEMOCRATS and a few reporters from the NY Times.

5/6/2003 kristoff reports that Wilson said documents forged at meeting?

5/6/2003 also from Kristof's column where Wilson says he told them they were forgeries

This is important because at this point Wilson starts to hint/lie/obsfucate that it was HE who told the CIA that the Italian forgeries were fake when that was impossible. Note he gave his report to the CIA some seven months BEFORE the forgeries came out.

6/12/2003 WAPO article where Wilson says it again-about his role in revealing forgeries.

For the rest of June Wilson showed up on various TV shows and in various sympathetic columns to liberals. Including a carefully planted Blogger as a matter of interest.

7/1/2003 wilson oped for NY Times

7/7/2003 fleischer says ref to Niger shouldn't have been in sotu speech

Now here is where Bush mucks things up to my confusion. Because of Wilson's oped he backtracked and said that the Niger connection was not clear enough and should not have been part of the SOTU speech. The reports of Saddam trying to purchase yellowcake are likely true. Wilson reported back to the CIA that no purchase was actually made but overtures had been made. Of course he said something entirely different to the public. But Bush's reaction was strange and still I'm not sure why he bothered. The administration reaction served to pour gasoline on the Wilson flap.

7/14/2003 novak's column reveals Plame as agent

7/16/2003 david corn article

8/1/2003 Wilson quote about frog-marching Rove to jail

8/10/2003 wilson accuses white house of leaking wife's name

10/1/2003 Joe receives first ridenour truth prize

1/1/2004 Vanity Fair profile

4/1/2004 Joe's book comes out

7/9/2004 Senate Select committee report released on the matter

This entire thing was an orchestration by the Senate Democratic policy folks. Recall it was an election year coming up and they needed to discredit Bush. Wilson's little vacation to Niger served to help bash Bush so he was "recruited" to the effort. He was promised he would make millions on a book about his "persecution" by the White House.

Of course a scandal had to be concocted so at strategically important dates "someone" releases about Valerie Plame.

This serves two purposes. One, it gets Joe his scandal that would allow his book to be a hot item. Poor puppy, telling the truth and getting beat up by the President.

Perfect timing, huh? April 2004. Enough time to get the book out there, get it talked about, get Joe some book sales. All pre-planned by the Senate Democrat policy committee almost a year and half earlier. All planned, with a little help with the NY Times. Which had a reporter in on that meeting with ole Joe, did you know that? Guy named Kerstoff. What's a reporter doing there? When do reporters get invited to cozy meetings at Demo Senate policy meetings?

Hey, this is really rough. I did a smack up "fly on the wall" on this and so far nothing's proved me wrong.

My Blog will have this post next week. Check in because I really have to format everything.

I've got links and quotes and feel like I understand it perfectly.

BUT, there's something about Judith Miller that doesn't jive. The prosecutor's looking for someone else. She did have a direct line to Chabali. Who is now discredited.

I think there may be some implication about those forged documents because whoever said they were a poison pill was absolutely correct.

Someone planted that poison pill and that might be why Bush had to backtrack after the Wilson oped.

Speaking of Wilson, here's his spin on today's events:

"The sentencing of Judith Miller to jail for refusing to disclose her sources is the direct result of the culture of unaccountability that infects the Bush White House from top to bottom. President Bush’s refusal to enforce his own call for full cooperation with the Special Counsel has brought us to this point. Clearly, the conspiracy to cover up the web of lies that underpinned the invasion of Iraq is more important to the White House than coming clean on a serious breach of national security. Thus has Ms Miller joined my wife, Valerie, and her twenty years of service to this nation as collateral damage in the smear campaign launched when I had the temerity to challenge the President on his assertion that Iraq had attempted to purchase uranium yellowcake from Africa."
