The Schiavo Autopsy Results: Terri Dailies July 6
Accuracy in Media-Media Monitor ^ | July 6, 2005 | Cliff Kincaid

Several bloggers have drawn attention to a strange lead in a Washington Post story about the Terri Schiavo autopsy results. The June 16 Post story by David Brown said that "Terri Schiavo died of the effects of a profound and prolonged lack of oxygen to her brain on a day in 1990, but what caused that event isn't known and may never be, the physician who performed her autopsy said…"

An article in the Michigan City Indiana News Dispatch from someone who almost gets it, but rattles off the same platitudes debunked long ago.

Terri Schiavo case makes us value life
By Leonard Woolsey, In Plain View

Every once in a while an event crops up that causes each of us to more closely examine our deeply held personal beliefs about life and death. The Terri Schiavo case, for many of us, is one of those watershed moments.

Generally as my 14-year-old son and I drive to school in the morning we talk about whatever seems to be on our minds - school, a television show we watched the night before or a story he ran across about a new computer application nearing its release date. Earlier this week, after a few moments of silence, he brought up the very subject dominating my thoughts as we drove past a dairy farm.

"You know," he said, "I really feel sorry for the family of Terri Schiavo."

Surprised at his ability to seemingly read my mind, I dove into the subject I could not clear from my mind for the past several days.

"I know," I said, "How does anyone ever reach a decision on that without deeply questioning their own personal beliefs about life?"

As the farms passed behind us we talked about Terri Schiavo's quality of life and the excruciating pain her entire family must be dealing with during this entire ordeal.

"You know," I said, "Man cannot create life on a workbench. Only God can create life. If we believe that to be true, then who are we to take a life?"

Nearing the school, my son and I continued to talk about how we - not only as a society, but as individuals - justify our conflicting opinions on the subject of life. How can it be we can feel passionately about protecting newborn life yet accept putting a criminal to death? Or vice versa? Or how is it we can justify the taking of any life - even in the face of war? Mankind is a most hypocritical creature.

The Terri Schiavo case rocks many of us to a core we'd just as well not visit too often. Not only is it deeply personal, but prompts us to provide very painful answers that can easily wilt under the light of scrutiny.

Terry Schiavo is, for all practical purposes, not the same person she was minutes before she suffered the heart attack that left her in her current condition. She was - and still is - a wife, mother and friend. She laughed, cried and loved those around her.

But today, now in a deep and irreversible vegetative state, she is dependent on us to provide her with both food and water to survive. No machine is pumping artificial life into her organs - without that, the life God gave her will be extinguished. The only thing she requires for the life to continue are the basic necessities - food and water - what we faithfully provide for the pets we keep in our home.

Letting my son out at the curb of his school we parted ways both knowing there is no easy answer to the subject - regardless of how many miles we could drive that morning.

Terri Schiavo and her family have gone through a painful decision of life and death. And if there is a saving grace, let it be we are all being invited to once again examine and evaluate our personal value of life. And if that is so, then both God and Terri Schiavo will have reminded us that life is not created on a workbench by the hands of man.

While I'm glad that this person "almost" gets it, this person really should know a little bit more about what he's talking about before he writes about it.

He has a few misconceptions about the Terri but I think mostly his heart and mind are in the right place.

He refers to Terri as "a wife, mother and friend." He refers to Terri having had "a heart attack", he also refers to Terri as being in a "deep" pvs.

This is right on, though, "You know," I said, "Man cannot create life on a workbench. Only God can create life. If we believe that to be true, then who are we to take a life?"

No, you haven't stumbled onto a cult.

You guys are just having a minor disagreement off topic, right now.

It's not a big deal. I live in tornado alley and such incidents happen all the time.

Now, back to Terri and all the other "useless eaters"...

Oh, and F4 doesn't really refer to the size of the tornado or the wind speed but to the damage it does.

It just happens that the tornados 1/2+ mile wide are usually the biggest so they have the potential to create the most damage and highest winds so the weathermen will generally let people know it's a big tornado that can create alot of death and damage and one way to do that is to kind of label that tornado to give an esitmate of it's potential.

You can have a large tornado with high wind speeds but little damage if it hits outside populated areas. I think the F5 that hit OKC in 1999 had been on the ground for hours or at least an hour or two. It was so powerful and destructive that if there had been an F6, it probably would have rated that. It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

We've had some that were labeled an F3 at the time and a day or two later upgraded or downgraded due to the destruction path.

If someone ever says an F5 is coming, don't wait around for someone to confirm it's an F5, go below ground because anything above ground won't be safe.

Now back to the topic at hand.

It still happens that small tornados come down in rural areas and most won't know it unless there is damage or electrical lines go down.

The dopplers and other radars can't really pick up the small tornados well.

Yeah, I watched the OKC tornado on TV for at least an hour that day. We were west of the tornado so we were safe. It just seemed to go on and on and on. I remember it seems it started around Chickasha and kept going from there. It might have went up a couple of times, I'm not sure.

Pardon me, I was taking a short break from work now I must return to figure out .xls and .txt data feeds to upload info.

You haven't stumbled onto anything. You've been here long enough to be aware this is a Conservative site, dedicated to values like the right to life. We support our military in daily threads like the Canteen and the Foxhole. We promote Judeo-Christian values in the Religion threads. These values permeate Free Republic. So if you plan to troll the threads, promoting some other set of values, or lack thereof, at least don't insult our intelligence by pretending you didn't know this is a Conservative site.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1103363/posts - Statement by the founder of Free Republic. Jim Robinson gives an in-depth explanation of what he and his site stand for.

If you really believe Free Republic is a cult, maybe you'd be happier somewhere else.

In regard to you suggesting Free republic is a cult, quite possibly you would be much happier at a place like DU. I haven't been here that long, but I know free Republic is filled with great people who care about each other and OUR COUNTRY and for making Our Country and Lives better thru Conservative Value Systems.Dont let the door slam you in the rear when you leave.

You two remind me of the airline stewardess. "Welcome to Atlanta."  She's still in the plane with me; the plane hasn't even touched the ground yet and she's coming on like the mayor's wife.
