Man kills self after slaying of wife Woman's 19-year-old son hospitalized after chase, stabbings near Ralls
BY D. LANCE LUNSFORD AVALANCHE-JOURNAL
A husband stabbed his wife to death and also stabbed her son early Tuesday morning in a roadside attack near Ralls before driving to Lubbock and shooting himself to death, authorities said.
According to investigators, Gerald Thomas Wade, 40, of Lubbock, chased Sharon Wade, 39, of Lubbock eastbound in his 2004 Dodge pickup before finally coaxing her to a stop two miles west of Ralls on U.S. 62/82 at about 1 a.m. Tuesday.
One of Sharon Wade's children, Jennifer Ellison, 12, was in her vehicle, said Texas Department of Public Safety Cpl. John Gonzalez. According to investigators, Sharon Wade was en route to pick up another daughter in Ralls, 16-year-old Sara Ellison. Sharon Wade had already called her son, Mark Ellison, 19, who drove another vehicle to the scene.
When Mark Ellison arrived, Gerald Wade stabbed him, said Gonzalez.
"Then he stabbed and killed Mrs. Wade," Gonzalez said.
He said Gerald Wade attempted to chase Jennifer Ellison, but she successfully hid from him.
Jennifer Ellison, said Gonzalez, was treated briefly at Covenant Medical Center before being released to other family members unharmed Tuesday morning.
Mark Ellison was in satisfactory condition Tuesday night at Covenant, a hospital spokeswoman said.
According to Gonzalez, Gerald Wade drove back toward Lubbock after the attacks. At the same time, Crosbyton police and Crosby County Sheriff's deputies put out an all-points-bulletin for Wade's pickup.
DPS Sgt. Ruben Garcia, DPS Trooper Marcus Owen as well as an officer from the Crosbyton Police Department set out for Lubbock to look for Wade's pickup, according to Gonzalez. Gonzalez said Lubbock police officers located Wade's pickup on South Indiana Avenue sometime Tuesday morning and contacted Crosbyton investigators.
"Our units initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle," said Gonzalez. "Mr. Wade turned into the Kohl's parking lot on 98th and Indiana where he was ordered out of the vehicle."
Gonzalez said Wade did not comply, and as officers waited, they heard a single gunshot come from inside the pickup.
Wade was found inside the pickup with a gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation continues with the Texas Rangers as the lead agency.
"It is unknown at this point as far as motive," Gonzalez said.

Yea, it's a shame they don't shoot themselves in the head before they go on a murder spree.
How strange that he had a gun with him, yet chose to stab his victims.... apparently he meant to make the attack as personal as possible. Then the cowardly murderer shots himself to spare himself the pain of facing the consequences of his own brutal violence. I seriously doubt he is being spared.
At least they don't have to spend money on a trial for human garbage.
what if they never intended to hurt anyone period? what if the person never hurt the victim ever? then drugs are involved and that's why things ended up like they did because both husband and wife had been doing drugs for a long period of time? wouldn't it change who they both were?
if you call this man human garbage, then call all men who kill their wives human garbage. you think because a man catches his wife cheating on him she deserved to die? my brother was not human garbage. his wife didn't deserve what happened to her. and neither did my brother. he wasn't looking to hurt anyone. his step-son started the fight, knowing both his mom and my brother had been doing drugs. i think each one of them could have prevented this from ever happening. make sure you have facts to back up your judgement.
he didn't have a gun with him at all. after what happened he knew that he did not want to live or deserve to live. drugs changed who he was and who his wife was. they were both out of control for so long. noone should have died that night. including my brother. but he was not looking to hurt anyone and wasn't making any personal attack on anyone. this wasn't planned out. he never raised a hand to anyone in his family. ever. and yes, he was spared. God forgives us for all of our sins. even people like you who judge.
Well, I am truly sorry for your loss.

How did you even know about this thread?
No one else but he is responsible for his illegal drug intake and the erratic violent behavior that resulted.
Blaming a stepson who has had to put up with the abuse of druggie parents for his protective and defensive actions is thoughtless and cruel.
There is no "after what happened" -- there is an "after what he did and caused."
Stabbing people to death is a personal attack. Your denial of that is ridiculous.
You have other, bigger issues to deal with inside rather than spend time arguing with strangers over their comments on a news story. If you have facts to offer that are not included, then do so in a rational coherent report.
It doesn't really matter what we think .. what matters is that you face reality and learn to move on. This isn't therapeutic.
