Food taxes are an avoidable tax, the kind the founding fathers wanted, perhaps a tax on smoking licenses for bars would have been better.

It is? What kind of venue is that for beach volleyball? They should rename it sandbox volleyball then.

Clue....$4 per pack cigarette tax in NYC. I want a tax on junk food, 4$ per .80 cent Taco, and I want fat people banned from restaurants....irony apparently plumb evades you.

Taxes on junk food are completely fair. They are specifically outlined in the Constitution when the founders say there should be no unavoidable tax.

translation
"With this observation you understand others and being able to have common sense of what this discussion is all about. As many philosophers from Socrates to modern ones have a question: what is truth? Truth is within of your own reach you just have to look for it. In other words, sense of sensibility allows you to have understanding of things beyond basic understanding. Either fore what we have here is simple anecdote: world war has begun so it has. Today's media is portraying this war as simple fact; problems do arise from within of their own concept what war is really like. Either fore time is coming when you will have to face your enemy face straight forward. Are you ready for it? Needless words or great nostalgia of past will prepare you for what is coming? Only you can make a fair judgment: today's world is at war; soon it will eclipse all the wars before hand; will world be ready to stand up? It seems today's clock is fixed on yesterday memories, and for it is its doom."thank you

......but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States.

Next time you go to your smoke free restaurant, I want that $4 per taco tax imposed on YOU, you'll be singing a different tune very quickly when your $3 meal costs $15.

States were clearly given the right to tax as well not simply the federal government. I would stop eating the taco and buy some ground beef and a shell and make my own. Failing that I could, if I was so inclined, make the shell from corn meal, and raise my own cow. Hence the term no unavoidable tax. The states are not restricted from levying taxes, however congress is restricted from mandating an unavoidable tax and any taxes they do levy must be uniform.

true, but Brighton doesn't have a sandy beach either, so they'd have to import sand either way!

If I understand correctly, that would be an argument between direct and indirect taxes. Only direct taxes are unavoidable, indirect taxes are imposed upon activities and are avoidable. That being said, if tobacco products are unhealthy they should be illegal, like crack and pot. Milking the tax cow from smokers, under the guise of health issues, while ignoring the issue of obesity is disingenuous...to say the least.

It probably is moot if they have already settled on the site being in Westminster (yeah right when I think Westminster the beach instantly comes to mind) but there must be a sandy beach somewhere on the English coast.

I haven't been overseas since Richard Nixon was in the White House. I'm already making plans, and trying to arrange finances for this one. Beer, Brits, Aussies, Canadians and Americans in one room? If Schroeder gets voted out later this year by the conservatives, I think we should invite the Germans to the party.

BTW: for the smoker Nazis out there, don't worry about me. I use smokeless tobacco. I'll just spit on your shoes.

I think all those products should be legal and taxed, no where is congress charged with individual health choices. Unavoidable taxes are things like the income tax, since you cannot get money without paying the tax.

With that screen name, and this subject, you HAVE to put something on your "about" page!

Been thinking about that. I do have a personal interest in the Olympic Games from a track & field competition perspective.
