Clinton's Celebrity Status Creates Buzz for New York's Olympic Bid (2008 Preview)
NY Times ^ | 7/5/2005 | JIM RUTENBERG

As New York City pushed to host the 2012 Summer Olympics, its top officials desperately tried to get some face time with the all-powerful delegates of the International Olympic Committee who are deciding the fate of the city's bid.

But while many of the I.O.C. representatives were ducking some of the high-profile names seeking to woo their vote, at least one turned the tables: Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was greeted like a rock star as she made her way around this tidy Asian island on Tuesday promoting the city's bid for the 2012 Summer Games. Delegates sought to have their picture taken with her, or at least get her autograph. And while many showed up late for their meetings with representatives of the five cities bidding, for Mrs. Clinton they showed up early, sometimes standing in line.

Ms. Clinton's presence was taken as something as an afterthought in some New York City quarters. But the welcome accorded to her appearance here was a stark reminder that Mrs. Clinton, like her husband, still has celebrity status in much of the world, and it delivered the sort of buzz the New York City bid team is hungering for as it tries to create the appearance of momentum in the final hours before the I.O.C. vote. No one knows how the vote will go, but the perception here is that Ms. Clinton's presence has given a lift to the city's chances.

In a country ruled by celebrity, we need to be very wary of allowing the MSM to create a pro-Hillary frenzy by 2008. It's already starting.

True, and if NYC somehow wins the Olympics bid (which I think is next to impossible now) Hillarity will be hyped as having saved it all for NYC and America. It's win/win for her, because even if the Olympics go elsewhere she can be portrayed by the media as the good soldier who went across the globe on behalf of her constituents.

.... but I strongly suspect that while the IOC drones are eager to meet and be photographed with her, there is very little chance that they will be voting to send the Olympics to NYC this time around.....

Hmmm... Singapore is so famous for maintaining the cleanliness of public spaces that I would expect them to have her horsewhipped for daring to show her face on Singaporean street and then deport her oimmediately.

From Hillary's Speech today:

You know, you know, you know, you know, and of course, you know!

(insert thunderous applause from throngs who didn't understand what she was saying anyway)

Hillary is playing her cards perfectly, no errors. On our side, total disarray. A party at odds with its own President over judges and immigration. No impressive candidates emerging for 2008. Looking pretty grim as of this moment.

Hillary staked her political capital on this bid, and lost.
She has proven that she is not the world leader with international influence afterall that the Democrats would like us all to believe.
