MOSCOW, July 5 (Itar-Tass) - The so-called emir of the Sunzha district of Chechnya Khamzat Bakhayev has been detained in a police search operation in the Sernovodskoye settlement, spokesman for the Chechen Interior Ministry Ruslan Atsayev told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

According to the police official, Bakhayev was located and detained “with the help of local residents who promptly informed police about his whereabouts.”

Atsayev said Bakhayev, born in 1976, was appointed emir not long ago by leader of Chechen terrorists Doku Umarov.

Emir Bakhayev as the head of a local Jamaat (extremist terrorist organisation) was responsible for the preparation of terror acts in the Sunzha district
